Can flea eggs on your clothes from your dog infest your home?

What are the chances of a flea infestation developing on your clothes, say your pet has fleas and you got a flea egg on a piece of clothing after petting your dog and then put in your drawer? my dog is on advantage.The vet said my dog did not have any signs of fleas on him as well. This is for my OCD

Fleas require a host like a dog or cat to complete their life cycle. If a flea egg got on your clothing it could hatch, but the flea would then die. Advantage also contains a medication that prevents flea eggs from hatching, so if the flea had been on your pet before it jumped off and died the egg would not hatch.

There is no chance. The flea would not be able to complete its life cycle in your clothing drawer. To be sure, vacuum everywhere, wash all bedding in hot water and use an area treatment such as Knockout ES around the house. Keep your dog on a flea preventative for at least 3 consecutive months, preferably year round.

It can happen, as fleas can feed on dandruff, skin, and other organic human waste that can be found on clothing. To be safe, I would wash that item of clothing and the other items in the drawer in hot soapy water.

Can tick eggs infest my home after a tick was removed from a dog?

Thank you for submitting your question. A tick needs to feed while on a dog and then it will drop off after breeding to lay eggs. So this would not have been possible if the tick was removed from the dog while feeding. It sounds like you did a thorough job of cleaning as well. So I do not believe you need to worry. If the dog is not coming to your house and they are traveling without the dog and not staying with you, then out would be unlikely they would bring fleas to you. But, not impossible. Fleas could be in their luggage or clothes,, just not likely. You could always put a dose of Advantage or Frontline onto your cats to be safe.

My dog's on Advantage, vet found no fleas. Could there be flea eggs?

You can also check for little black specks on his fir closest to his skin called flea dirt. Likely though if you apply flea prevention and the doctor found no evidence he should be ok but if you find these little black specks of dirt, a way to conform if it is indeed flea dirt is take a paper towel, wet it, and smear the dirt specks around. Normal dirt will not look any different after doing this however flea dirt will have a reddish color to it

Where do fleas live? On my pet, or in my carpet and furniture?

Adult fleas live on the host (dog, cat, etc.). They come from the environment and seek out a host to feed and breed. Only about 5% of the flea population are adult fleas. The remainder are eggs, pupae or larvae. These earlier stages typically settle into carpeting or deep in furniture and bedding. They can remain "dormant" for months waiting for the right combination of temperature and humidity before developing into adult fleas to begin the cycle anew.
