My dog fell and is limping. What home remedies can I use for his leg?

Poor Ozzie! There are many reasons Ozzie could be limping and it could be anything from a sprained toe to arthritis to a hair line fracture. If Ozzie is not wanting to use the leg at all, I recommend to have him examined tomorrow. When pets will not use the leg at all, that is much more concerning for a more severe injury or for more severe pain. If Ozzie will use the leg, he should definitely see the vet if he is still limping on Monday. I recommend STRICT rest until he is given the clear by the veterinarian. That means no walks, running, jumping or stairs. He should also be crated anytime you are not watching him. Not resting your pet can allow this to get worse. I hope this helps. You can apply a cool (not cold) compress the the area you suspect is painful every 2 hours for 10 minutes. A gentle massage a few times a day can also help. If resting doesn't resolve the limp I recommend having your Vet examine Charlie. I do not recommend giving him any human OTC pain medications. I hope this helps and I wish Charlie a speedy recovery!

Hello. At this point I would ensure that Spirit rests that leg as much as possible. You do not indicate if it is a front or hind leg, but the most common areas to be injured are the wrist & shoulder area of the front leg & the knee or hip area on the hind. I would start using a warming compress concentrating on the shoulder, knee or hip, depending on leg, applying the warmth for 10 minutes 2-3 times a day. I am sure she is uncomfortable, so make sure she is well padded while lying & assist her as best you can. See your vet as soon as possible if she is not improved. No there is not really any medication we can recommend you give Didier without having examined him. Also, many over the counter medications are not safe to give and it is difficult to get the correct dosing for a small dog. I suggest you just rest him strictly for the next 7 days. Leash walk to go outside to use the toilet only then right back inside. No running, jumping or playing. No stairs if that can be helped. If no improvement within that week or if he gets worse then you should get him to your vet for an exam. If he does seem better after a week then you can go back to GRADUALLY increasing his exercise over the next couple of weeks. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Poor Boss! Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I would rest him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. If Boss is still limping in after this time period, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. Should the limping get worse and he progresses to non-weight bearing, don't wait the 48 hours and take Boss into the vet right away.

You should keep Steve rested, with limited exercise on a leash, no running, jumping or going up or down the stairs. If he continues to limp thought the evening, please take him to your vets tomorrow.
