My dog fell and is limping. Should I take her to an emergency vet?

My dog has a small fall on Sunday. She fell off the seat of the car down to the leg rest. When she fell she whimpered but quickly stopped. Since then I’ve been taking notice of her leg for the last 2 days she’s been having trouble going up and down stairs. She has been running and walking fine on flat surfaces. However today she got a bit excited and was running on a flat service when she suddenly stopped and whimpered while holding her leg up. Should I take her to emergency/wait for thursday ap

Poor girl! She does sound painful. Because she has been in pain for a couple of days and it sounds like she may have accidentally made things worse today, I think it would be better to get her into a vet now.

However she may have a more serious injury such as a fracture or ligament rupture. It's possible that he just sprained or jammed something. I'd let him rest for a bit but if he continues to be painful or won't use it then get him seen. He may have a fracture or dislocation if he hit hard enough. If he's crate trained out him to rest in there for a bit to see if he settles. Do not give otc medicines for pain!

My dog is limping and holding her leg up. Should I take her to vet?

She may have torn her cruciate ligament, have a problem with her knee cap, have a fracture, etc. Since she seems to be in pain, you should take her to your vet today for an orthopedic examination. Your vet can take an x-ray, if needed, to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. An anti-inflammatory and pain medications can be prescribed to help relieve any pain. Hope she feels better soon!

My dog was hit by a car and is limping. Is this an emergency?

Poor Glizzy! I would take Glizzy into a vet immediately. There could be internal injuries from getting hit by a car, and that can only be determine with a physical exam and x-rays. This is a medical emergency, and I would take Glizzy into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him now.

Poor Olive! If she is crying out, that generally indicates significant discomfort. If you can get her in today, that would be best. Poor pup! She could could have torn her cranial cruciate ligament in her knee or done damage to the meniscus in her knee. It's concerning that she has been limping on three legs for four days now, and it's time to see a vet. Rest her tonight, no running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a lead only, and bring her right back in when she's one. Have her seen by a vet first thing in the morning for a lameness exam and x-rays.

Please make an appointment to have Tammh seen by a vet as soon as possible. She is likely in pain, and may have a muscular or nerve injury, a fractured bone, a mass, or a foreign body in the leg. Your vet can assess the leg during the physical exam and may recommend x-rays to help determine the cause of Tammh’s limp. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for dogs, so I do not recommend giving any to Tammh without consulting with your vet.
