My dog has fatty lumps on his stomach area. Are there any home remedies that will help?

The only way to treat lipomas (fatty lumps) is to have them surgically removed. There is no treatment that will make them go away. The best time to have them removed is when your dog is under anesthesia for something like a dental cleaning, unless they are growing rapidly and/or interfering with movement.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Unfortunately there are no medications or alternatives to get rid of lipomas. If Tina is overweight at all, getting her to lose weight may help reduce the occurrence of these and some may reduce in size. If she is not overweight, then surgery really is the only option. Lipomas do not need to be removed though. These are typically benign in most cases and rarely become cancerous. I would just keep an eye on them for now and then discuss removal with your vet should that ever need to happen. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. My dog has lumps, vet suggested surgery. Is removal necessary?

I am assuming that your vet did a needle aspirate and wasn't able to get a diagnosis. The only way to know the cause of the lumps would be to remove them and submit to a lab for biopsy. As long as he is otherwise healthy then the risk of anesthesia is low. If he needs a dental cleaning then your vet could do both at the same time. If you don't want to have them removed then you could monitor for a month or so and see how the lumps change. If they are growing then they really should be removed.

an open and infected tumor should be removed. If it happens to be a lipoma (fatty lump) then this should be curative. If it happens to be another type of tumor, then your vet should do an x-ray of the lungs to check whether there are metastases. I think you should get a second opinion from another veterinarian or a veterinary oncologist.

Should I remove my dog's non-cancerous lipoma if it's not bothering her?

There's no need to remove lipomas unless they are bothering the dog in some way. Dogs who have lipomas are prone to developing others, and it will be very important to have any new lump checked out to make sure it is a lipoma and not cancerous. As long as it's not hurting her and it's not overly large, I personally see no need to remove it.

It is very likely this mass has changed from a lipoma (fatty deposit) to another kind of mass. For now its best to just clean it with Betadine diluted 50:50 with water, and then get your vet to either sample the mass again or go ahead with surgical removal of the mass. What is this non-movable lump on my dog's belly? Should I worry?

Poor Tinker! Some lipomas (fatty tumors) can become fixed, but yes general they are movable. Unfortunately, being fixed to the underlying tissue is a common characteristic of malignant tumors. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by your vet. Your vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, your vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I recommend taking Tinker into your vet today or first thing tomorrow.
