My dog has a small, fast-growing bump on her hip. Is it serious?

This looks like a tumor. You need to make an appointment with your veterinarian to have this mass examined and preferably have a Fine Needle Aspirate done to send to a laboratory or have it removed right away if possible, in case it is a malignant growth. The FNA will help with diagnosing whether this is malignant or benign.

This lump under Behr's skin is most likely something benign like a cyst or lipoma, however there is a small chance it could be something cancerous. At such a young age cancer is unlikely but not impossible. If the growth doesn't go away within a few days or it gets larger it would be a good idea to have Behr examined by a veterinarian. If necessary a small needle aspirate can be taken from the lump and looked at under the microscope to determine if it should be removed surgically. Unfortunately there is no way to tell what that is just by looking at it. It could be a benign or malignant growth. I am concerned that it could be a mast cell tumor and I recommend having Lexi examined by her veterinarian. They will take a sample with a needle and examine it under the microscope to determine what it is and what treatment is needed.

Aubree is so beautiful! If she has a bump on her hip, I would have her seen by a vet for it. She's still a young dog, and while cancer could be a possibility, it wouldn't be as strong a possibility as an older dog. I am sorry to hear about Tia. It sounds like she could have a cyst. This is a fluid filled mass that can appear quickly (as it fills with fluid and gets larger). Sometimes they rupture and can cause a local infections. Many are benign in the sense that they don't spread/cause cancer elsewhere, but we cannot say for certain just by looking at them. Your vet may have recommended sending a sample of their aspirate to a lab for evaluation. This can help identify the type of mass and its behavior and help us determine if the mass needs to be removed or can just be monitored.

Hello. From the photo that you provided, this looks like a growth that may be benign or malignant. It may also be a cyst. Your veterinarian can try to do a fine needle aspirate on the lump in order to determine if it is urgent to surgically remove it. As to whether the hot spot caused it…. that is not likely. Your pet may be licking or chewing at it and it may have had some part in causing the hotspot, but I cannot say for sure. Kim's is a young dog so most likely this is a histiocytoma. However, I would err on the side of caution and have your vet conform whether it is benign or malignant. Your vet can insert a small needle into the mass and look at the cells under the microscope to get a better idea of what the mass is. I hope this helps!
