My dog has a hard bump on her hip after grooming. Is it cancer?

Hip dysplasia does not cause lumps or bumps. I would be concerned this is a tumor and I recommend to have her examined. Older dogs (just like people) are more prone to develop lumps/bumps and some of these can be cancerous. Older pets are also more prone to arthritis. This looks like a tumor. You need to make an appointment with your veterinarian to have this mass examined and preferably have a Fine Needle Aspirate done to send to a laboratory or have it removed right away if possible, in case it is a malignant growth. The FNA will help with diagnosing whether this is malignant or benign.

The veterinarian will use a small needle to collect a sample of cells to evaluate under the microscope. Based on these results, treatment recommendations can be made. For example, if the mass appears cancerous, then surgery will be recommended. Bone cancer occurs in dogs, but is not common in the location shown in your pictures. So this is less likely. In a young dog of Leila's age, this nodule is most likely to be a benign tumor or a cyst. There is a small chance it could be malignant, but it's unlikely. This lump under Behr's skin is most likely something benign like a cyst or lipoma, however there is a small chance it could be something cancerous. At such a young age cancer is unlikely but not impossible. If the growth doesn't go away within a few days or it gets larger it would be a good idea to have Behr examined by a veterinarian. It is very hard to say what the lump is without examining your dog and possibly taking a sample of the lump for pathology. It is possible that the lump is a mammary gland tumour (benign or malignant) but it really does not often happen in such young dogs. All you need to do at the moment is to keep the wound clean and make sure that Aubrey does not lick it. Once your vet is open, you need to take your dog for an appointment.
