My dog has a red, bleeding, growing bump on her hip. What is it?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 8 months old | 65 lbs

My dog has a dime size red bump on her rear hip it did bleed but not much but seems to be growing not fast but within 2 days it was double the size when it first started it was a size of a pea but now ita dime size she doesnt itch it or bite it she eats normal an drinks normal her energy is normal so im lost on what it is ooo my dog is lab an shepard mix i really dont want a $200vet bill if i can help it an treat it myself

Unfortunately there is no way to tell what that is just by looking at it. It could be a benign or malignant growth. I am concerned that it could be a mast cell tumor and I recommend having Lexi examined by her veterinarian. They will take a sample with a needle and examine it under the microscope to determine what it is and what treatment is needed.

IT could be a small infection, it could also be a lump (tumor), i recommend not touching it and just keeping an eye on it in the next couple weeks, if it does not resolve or gets bigger- take Gunner to the vet in order to get it treated.

I recommend to have Nellie examined by her veterinarian. Skin masses can be many things but red raised masses are especially concerning for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. Your veterinarian will need to collect a sample of cell to examined under the microscope to determine what this is and if further treatment is needed. I don't suspect this is related to the move or the other dogs. Have this checked out soon and best of luck.

This looks like a tumor. You need to make an appointment with your veterinarian to have this mass examined and preferably have a Fine Needle Aspirate done to send to a laboratory or have it removed right away if possible, in case it is a malignant growth. The FNA will help with diagnosing whether this is malignant or benign.

My dog has a red bump next to her eye, but acts normal. What is it?

I'm glad to hear that by and large Roxy isn't bothered by this bump. It's possible that this bump could be due to a benign mass (histiocytomas are fairly common in young dogs), a malignant mass (although this would be far less likely given Roxy's young age), an abscess, granuloma, or other infectious issue. Regardless, it would be best to take Roxy to her vet for an exam to have this lesion checked out. Your vet will likely recommend some diagnostic testing to help determine the cause of this lesion. Most likely, they'll recommend a fine needle aspirate, which uses a needle to draw out a few cells for microscopic evaluation. Based on those findings, they'll be able to determine the best course of action, whether that may be surgical removal, medications, or just monitoring it for changes. I hope that everything goes well!

My dog has a red, irritated, growing skin bump. What's wrong?

There are a few possibilities as to what this could be on Ruby. In a younger dog benign masses called histocytomas are possible. These generally regress with time. However, masses like mast cell tumors can also present this way. Mast cell tumors can be problematic and need to be surgically removed. Mast cell tumors also release histamine so please do not continue to try to squeeze this growth. Some other causes of this (although probably less likely) are cysts or infections. I recommend taking Ruby to see your veterinarian so that a sample of cells from the mass can be obtained. This will help in diagnosing the growth and in deciding if it needs to be removed surgically. My dog's thigh has a red, changing lump. What should I do?

It could be a small cyst, pustule/papule, or possibly a Histiocytoma which is a benign mass that is common in young dogs. Since it is getting more red, she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. The vet may want to aspirate it and examine the contents under a microscope. She may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, it may need to be removed, or just monitored (histiocytomas typically resolve with no treatment). You could use an over the counter spray, like Vetricyn, and see if that helps relieve any redness or discomfort.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Kona does have what appears to be a small, round, red and slightly bloody bump on her lip margin. This can be caused by an infection, which may have resulted from a small cut. While Kona is pretty young, it is possible that the bump is a small tumor, and it can be removed to determine if it is benign (not harmful) or malignant (likely to spread). It is concerning that the bump has gotten bigger over time, so I recommend having her seen by a vet. You can get her an E-collar or "cone" to prevent her from scratching or rubbing the area. It could also be a mild skin infection. Dogs can develop skin masses/tumors such as mast cell tumors. I would recommend having Sky seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine the area and discuss the need for additional testing such as an impression of the area or collecting a small needle sample.
