Will my dog's facial paralysis from an ear infection go away?

No it should not cause paralysis but it can cause severe balance issues on one side, meaning she will always fall on this side, the limbs of the affected side will still be able to move though. after 5 weeks of antibiotics i would expect seeing a significant improvement assuming the correct antibiotic was chosen for the condition.

Facial drooping suggests that there may be facial paralysis (due to a lesion on the nerve that innervated the facial muscles) or a stroke event has occurred. Rubbing of the ear could indicate an ear infection or allergies. I would recommend having Sully examined by your vet to find out the underlying cause for sure. Once you know what is causing this, then appropriate treatment can be implemented for Sully. Best of luck.

I'm so sorry to hear that Tank has developed these problems. It sounds like he may have developed something that affected a number of cranial nerves. The most likely reason for this would be a middle ear infection that has affected the vestibular apparatus as well as the nerves to the face. Unfortunately, facial nerve paralysis can be permanent, so if Tank does not regain the use of the left side of his face, he may have to continue using eye drops life-long. Hopefully the facial nerve paralysis will improve along with his head tilt and coordination. The only other suggestion I would have is that I have had some luck with facial nerve paralysis with acupuncture, so that may be an option for Tank. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Usually, face swelling is not a commonly encountered sign of an ear infection so if his face continues to get swollen before tomorrow when you can have him evaluated by your veterinarian, consider having him evaluated tonight to make sure it is not something more concerning than an ear infection. So sorry to hear that Red is having this issue. Sounds like nystagmus. Could be an inner or middle ear infection - that means the infection is behind the ear drum so topical medications like Zymox will not fix this issue. It could also be a brain lesion or idiopathic (meaning we can't find an underlying cause). You need to get her to a vet for an exam and to discuss diagnostics and treatment options. Poor Timmy! It's good that he's starting to recover and things look almost normal. Unfortunately though, signs are often permanent and it is likely it won't go back to the way it was before, but the outlook is usually good! Over time, there will be chronic signs; for example, I will describe what that would mean if he has a droopy lip. The droopy lip will start to contract so that it regains its normal size and shape – although the animal will remain unable to move their lip. That could be one possibility. Yes, it may be that each side of his face will move differently because they are recovering at different paces. It is not likely to reoccur. I hope this helps!

Hello. We do see a Bell's Palsy type syndrome, most often referred to as idiopathic facial neuritis, in dogs. I would recommend checking Harley's thyroid levels as hypothyroidism will sometimes cause facial paralysis. Otitis or another inner ear conditions certainly can result is some facial paralysis, too.
