Why is my dog's face rash spreading and swollen after digging?

The discoloration is from chronic licking, and saliva contains enzymes in it that cause the fur to change color. The areas she has been licking are typically areas that flare up in cases of allergies - these can be to something in the environment such as mold or dust, or certain proteins in food. While the itching is not comfortable, the chronic clicking causes destruction of the skin barrier and this predisposes Rillie to bacterial and/or fungal skin infections. Your vet can determine if an infection is present and perform bloodwork to rule in/out specific allergens. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!

This can be caused by bacterial or fungal skin infections such as ringworm, skin mites, or autoimmune diseases. I recommend having your dog seen by a vet as ringworm can be transmitted to people. To determine for sure, she will need to be examined by your veterinarian and have the appropriate therapy prescribed. This could be other things, but given what you are describing and the appearance from the picture, these two are most likely. As ringworm is a possibility, you should take caution as it is a zoonotic (transmissible to humans) disease, so wash after handling Phene, and please see your physician if you notice any skin lesions on yourself. Often, if it is one of these diseases, frequent bathing with medicated shampoo will be prescribed along with topical creams or ointments, and in some cases, oral medications are needed to clear the disease. These will be at the discretion of the veterinarian following assessment. Hope this helps!

Poor Brooklynn! I would worry that she is having an allergic reaction to something. Sometimes we are able to figure out what a dog has had an allergic reaction to and sometimes we can't. Either way, we need to resolve the allergic reaction. The only over the counter product that can be used at home is Benadryl (https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/). However, your vet can give a Benadryl injection that will work more quickly and may also give a steroid injection if needed, so I would recommend having your vet evaluate her and decide on the best treatment for her. If the bumps are getting worse, Brooklynn is not eating or she vomits, she needs medical attention. If she appears to have trouble swallowing or breathing, it is a medical emergency and she needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away. Good luck! I recommend seeing a vet tomorrow to determine the cause and start treatment. In the meantime you can wash it tonight with a mild soap (like Dial) and water to relieve some of the irritation. Hello. This looks like it might be an eosinophilic folliculitis & furunculosis. This is often seen on the snout or bridge of nose of dogs mainly because of how the dig & root around leaf litter & under bushes. The initial cause is usually a small sab wound from a sticker or thorn, or even a bug bite. Most often we need to do some cytology or even a small biopsy to identify what is actually going on. At the very least, Holly needs to be on oral & some topical medications, including antibiotics & possibly some steroids to reduce the inflammation. It could be an allergic reaction of some kind, a bacterial or fungal infection, or an autoimmune disease. I really think you should take her to a vet for an exam. If it is starting in other locations on her body then then I would be very worried about this being an autoimmune disease (such as pemphigus). This is not something that you will be able to treat at home.
