My dog had eye removed yesterday and is crying. Is he in pain?

Yes the eye could be painful. Most dogs do great after eye removal and he may become perkier afterwards. You are the one that sees him everyday and are the best one to evaluate his quality of life. Panchito is not ok if he cannot open his right eye all the way and he's crying. He has to see a vet now, this is a medical emergency. Leaving any eye problem untreated can lead to vision loss, so please take him into a vet immediately.

The serious pain is gone now, and she is feeling good. There likely is still some wound pain and of course, she cannot see on that side. So she still has to adjust her vision. This is likely why she is irritated when you get near the area. Best leave her alone and let her adjust, eventually this will be no problem. And, btw, the incision looks excellent.

I would recommend calling the veterinarian that performed the surgery and discussing this with them. Typically when the eye is removed the lids are sewn shut. If Rarzi does not have an elizabethan collar on they I recommend getting one from your local pet store until you can get him to a veterinarian. Poor Bayley. She just need a bit of time to settle down, follow your vet instruction reading meds and she will be better soon. I would wait till this afternoon and if she continues to be unsettled, not eating and lethargic I would have her re-checked. Hello. I would not be annoyed at your veterinarian as things can happen, but it is clear that there needs to be either a treatment change, or the surgery site may need to be reexplored to make sure all infected material was removed. Previcox is a good pain reliever, but gabapentin is much better adjunct to pain management than tramadol. The antibiotic you are using is usually adequate, but your vet may also choose to augment this with something else, like a fluoroquinolone. Under normal circumstances, an eye should not look like this 1 week post surgery. You do need to contact your vet to make them aware of Pearls' condition. Poor Stella! I am sorry to hear about her issue! I would call her vet and let her know that the pain killers she is taking are not sufficient. They may want to prescribe additional pain killers or a sedative/anti anxiety drug for night time if they feel she is anxious due to the issue. We do sometimes prescribe several different kinds of pain medications for some dogs (i.e. an NSAID like Carprofen or Rimadyl in addition to a drug like Gabapentin or Tramadol). I am sorry she seems to be in such discomfort, that is hard to see!
