My dog's eye is hazy with discharge. What's wrong and can I use drops?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | unneutered | 12 years and 2 months old | 50 lbs

My 12 year old male German Boxer has one eye that bluish hazy and he has yellow/green discharge. I took his temp and it's 101.5. My vet doesn't open until 8am. Any ideas on what it might be and how I can make him comfortable. I have ciprofloxacin drops. Should I use them on his eye?

I would not use those eye drops until you get the eye checked over. It could be that Rosco has some mild uveitis in that eye and needs some different medications. If you google uveitis you will get very worried , please don' t. He might have it as he might not, as you seem keen in taking him to the vets as soon as they are open I am sure he will be fine and the real cause of the blue tinge and ocular discharge will be found out.
