My dog seems to have exaggerated reflexes. Is this hyperreflexia?

No. That is not something recognized or diagnosed in dogs. Many breeds are hyperactive in of themselves as that is what they are bred for. Most dog breeds are bred for a purpose (to work, herd, hunt, etc) and when we take them home and expect them to be a house pet that makes it seem like they are too hyperactive or cannot pay attention. Every dog should have a job and something to do to occupy their minds and give them stimulation. I am not sure 100% why you are asking this question so if you want to be more specific and post again maybe we can be more in depth for you. Hope this helps.

Lethargy is a common side effect from vaccinations-however on the other spectrum, a few patients do experience a bit of hyperexcitability as you have described. Our pets are just like us, each one is different. I would suggest monitoring his behavior over the next 24 hours-if these are the only side effects you notice it is likely he is fine. The signs you are describing may be compatible with the so called nerve root signature, which is usually caused by a compression of nerves coming out from spinal cord at the level of her cervical area. This compression may be caused by a slipped disc or ostheoarthritis on the cervical vertebras and it is usually dynamic, so only caused by certain movements. It almost sounds like you are describing narcolepsy/cataplexy. This is a disease that is usually inherited so it would be strange for you to seen signs now, although it can be associated with some other diseases. Other possibilities would be a heart condition, hypoglycemia related to pancreatic disease, or neurologic diseases like myasthenia gravis. I would recommend having her examined by your veterinarian.
