My dog eats everything, hasn't pooped. Is he constipated or blocked?

Sometimes pups do not poop as often as usual. I would not be worried yet. In case of a foreign body ingestion and blockage, a dog usually gets diarrhea first (the body is trying to get rid of the foreign body), then that stops and the dog will start to vomit and retch and get lethargic. Not pooping on time is not something to get worried about yet. You can feed a little bit of canned pumpkin to ease defecation. Going for a walk helps also. Should Rocky not have had a bowel movement by tomorrow, he is likely constipated and will have to be seen by your vet.

I always tell clients that if signs persist, worsen, or other signs develop after 12-24 or even 36 hours (depending on their severity), I advise a check up at their veterinarian. If the pet is acting sick then the waiting time goes down to zero, they should be seen immediately. So if Roko doesn't act sick or isn't uncomfortable, you could probably wait this out and see what happens. If he is constantly straining to have a bowel movement then of course he should be seen immediately. Vomiting and diarrhea can have many causes such as intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion (eating things dogs are not supposed to eat), overgrooming with resultant hair ingestion, toxin ingestion, foreign body ingestion, other problems with the gastrointestinal tract, problems with organs outside of the gastrointestinal tract, among many others. Your vet can get a detailed history and do a thorough exam. Once those are done, a diagnostic plan and treatment plan can be discussed and implemented. Possible tests include fecal/blood/urine tests and xrays as a starting point, called a minimum data base. If Roko isn't acting sick and straining a lot you could try some canned pumpkin with his food which is high in fiber. 1-2 teaspoons with each meal (canned pumpkin, NOT pumpkin pie filling). This will increase fiber to the gut and hopefully get the gut back on track. Good luck with Roko.

Constipation is pretty uncommon in dogs, so the bigger concern would be an obstruction, or a GI upset from raw meat (such as diarrhea or pancreatitis). Fortunately, raw bones are quite digestible in the stomach and often pass without incident. Monitor Bayliss closely for a decreased appetite, vomiting, or lethargy. As long as he is eating normally without vomiting, I am not worried about obstruction. However, if he shows any symptoms of lethargy, inappetance, or vomiting then a vet visit is appropriate. You could start giving her 2 tablespoons of canned pumpkin with her meals which may help with cases of mild constipation. I am really concerned about Pumkin head, especially since she has vomited up underwear and is continuing to act ill. One of my biggest concerns is that she could have something stuck in her intestines causing a blockage or obstruction. This is a surgical emergency, because something in the intestines has the potential to cause rupture of the intestines. The best way to diagnose this is with abdominal x-rays. If there is anyone who can help you out financially, bringing her to an emergency veterinarian right away is ideal. If you absolutely cannot, please ensure she has plenty of access to water. You may try offering her small amounts of a highly digestible diet, such as boiled chicken and boiled rice. I hope this is helpful - sorry to hear that she is so sick.

I'm sorry Lioh has been having trouble! It's possible that he may be constipated. You can offer him some canned pumpkin to see if that helps, but if he's not producing any stool by tomorrow or not eating he should see your vet.

Hi. I'm sorry Cooper is having stomach issues. If you vet has taken an X-ray and they think he is blocked from eating cloth, it sounds like they have a diagnosis and that he may need surgery. I would do whatever your vet is recommending, when dogs are blocked it can be painful and the blockage needs to be removed to help him feel better.
