Can my dog eat cornmeal? Is it safe and healthy for their diet?

Mice are unable to digest the corn gluten. Dogs are able to digest it, so it should be safe unless they ingest a ridiculously large amount. Be sure to remove any other food sources that may be attracting mice. Seal all entrances if possible. If your dogs eat the mice, it should not cause a secondary toxicity like traditional rodenticides. They can still become infected with parasites though, so it is best to prevent your dogs from eating mice, dead or alive.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would avoid human foods if you can. Once you go down that road of adding human food it is almost impossible to go back. If you need to add human food I would still with boiled chicken or hamburger as it is more bland then corned beef. Consider changing dog food brands or adding water or canned dog food to his dry food. Healthy dogs do not choose starvation and if you hold steady and firm that dog food is all he gets then he will learn. Dogs are smart and will hold out when they know something better will come along. A lot of times the dogs train the owner not the other way around. Be careful with what human foods you feed as they can cause an upset stomach or pancreatitis if too high in fat. I wish you the best!

No, corn is not a poor quality ingredient, it is a good source of carbohydrate. Corn is also rich in vitamin C, magnesium, B vitamins and carotenoids, contains very little fat, and is a good source of fiber.

Make sure that he doesn't get to eat the silk part of the corn as it can cause blockage of his intestines. These brands you mentioned are considered at least in my mind to be mid range foods, it's no McDonald's but it's not super healthy either. same foes for all the ingredients you mentioned, these are indeed fillers, some more problematic than others (such as meat byproducts for example). Dogs are considered omnivores but are truly carnivores, meaning they need mainly meat/fish in their diet, but economically and realistically it's not doable, there are too many dogs/cats and not enough meat on earth to keep with the demand.

This is not something small niche brand companies can afford to do. Very few dogs actually have allergies to wheat. It is typically a breed problem with Irish Setters. As far as corn, it is actually a high quality ingredient despite the bad press. It provides a complete protein source and many essential fatty acids. There is so much misinformation from other pet food companies trying to make their diets unique. Additionally, very fre dogs have allergies to corn. Thank you for the exc question.
