My dog tried to eat a cinnamon roll. Is it harmful for dogs?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Cinnamon is non-toxic to dogs. I do not suggest feeding your dog cinnamon, there are no health benefits that I know of. Unless Midnight has an unusual sensitivity, you will likely not see any problems with such a small amount. The main foods that you need to be very careful with, as small amounts can cause big problems, are grapes, raisins, onions, garlic or any vegetable with in that family group. Small amounts of those can cause serious illness and some dogs. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions!

Great question! Oatmeal, sugar (not too much!), baking soda, peanut butter (again not too much!!!), and eggs are fine. According to the Pet Poison Hotline, "Pumpkin spice products are usually flavored with a mix of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. Ingestion of very large amounts of cinnamon can potentially cause vomiting, diarrhea, lowered blood sugar, irritation of the mouth and lungs, and possibly changes in heart rate and issues with the liver. Nutmeg contains a toxin called myristicin, and toxicity can cause symptoms including hallucinations, disorientation, increased heart rate, high blood pressure, dry mouth, abdominal pain, and possibly seizures. Ingestion of large amounts of ginger can cause stomach upset and lethargy." As long as there are not large amounts of either cinnamon or pumpkin spice in the cookies, they should be fine for Princess. Remember these cookies are a treat, and only give her one every couple of days. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

No need to be concerned about this amount being ingested. At much higher doses, this can cause a blood toxicity, but he would probably have to eat much more (30-100x more) than this in order for there to be a concern. I hope that helps and all is well with Wolverine.

I don't see any ingredients that are toxic, but the sugar can cause some GI upset. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, have them seen by a vet. Otherwise, they should be ok. I hope this helps!

Apparently Kurt had his own plans for New Years! None of the oils are toxic to dogs (unless there is something that is not listed in the Fragrance Oils), but if he ate 8 ounces of it, that is a lot of oils and he certainly could have some diarrhea from it. If the diarrhea is mild, you could just add some cooked white rice to his food to help it resolve. If it is worse, you could feed him 1/2 cooked white rice and 1/2 cooked white meat chicken (no skin or bones) until the diarrhea has resolved. If the diarrhea is severe, has blood in it, Kurt is lethargic or the diarrhea continues for more than a few days, I would see your veterinarian. Good luck! Hopefully he will be fine. I would not be concerned if Dani only ate one bite of a lemon poppyseed muffin. Please monitor GI upset like vomiting and diarrhea and if these occur you may offer a bland diet of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice. If vomiting or diarrhea does occur and is severe you may need to have Dani examined to see if medication is needed. Again, I think it's highly unlikely Dani will become sick but do suggest monitoring her for the next day or so to ensure she doesn't get mild stomach upset.
