My puppy ate cherry chunks. Are cherry chunks safe for dogs to eat?

Cherry pits do contain trace amounts of cyanide, which is toxic to dogs - but normally, even a small dog like a Yorkie would have to eat a large number of them to cause a problem. The pit should pass through uneventfully, but if Jordan has any vomiting, lethargy or other problems I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam to be safe.

According to the Pet Poison Hotline, all parts of the cherry plant except for the pulp around the seeds are toxic and contain cyanide. It is fine for Thor to have the pulp, but be sure to remove the stem and any seeds. He can have them as an occasional treat and only a few at a time.

Typically Cherries do not have reports of causing toxicity or issues in animals. I would monitor Maia for vomiting and diarrhea. IF you see any vomiting and diarrhea I would take her to a vet for a food exam. However I think the likeliness she would have a problem is small.

Hi and thanks for posting. Ingesting one Marachino cherry is probably not enough to cause a significant problem. I would watch out for any signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or decrease appetite and take Daisy in to be seen by her vet if you notice any symptoms.

If the Danish contained only cherries I think Sammie will be fine, if there were raisins though she should see the vet straight away to have sickness induced and medical treatment. As you said, it might cause diarrhoea or could cause pancreas inflammation.Watch out for any vomiting or lose feaces and changes in her demeanour. I have seen young Labradors eat far worse and be absolutely fine, but always best to monitor as they are all different !

The symptoms of obstruction include vomiting, poor appetite, abdominal pain, lack of stools. The signs usually start within 24-48 hrs. If Nene chewed the pits, there is a small chance of cyanide intoxication. The signs to look for are panting, red gums, disorientation. They normally start a few hours after toxin ingestion. However, if Nene ate only two pits, he will likely pass them in his stools and he will not show any worrying symptoms.

Hello, if this occurred within the last hour, you need to have your veterinarian evaluate her so that they can induce vomiting. If vomiting is successful, then Lucy may be free of risk from the toxicities of cherry pits. If it has been longer than this, still have her evaluated, however she may need to be hospitalized to be monitored for toxicity.
