Should I feed my dog buttered bread? Is it healthy or harmful?

Bread isn't really a great choice to feed a dog, it is quite stodgey and fattening and the gluten can upset dog's stomachs. Moreover an occasional egg is okay but they are quite fatty so shouldn't be fed all the time. With this diet your dog is likely not getting the correct balance of nutrients. I would highly recommend feeding the best complete dog food you can afford, twice a day. If you really want you can add healthy foods to the diet to supplement it.

Naughty dog! I too have a counter surfer. ;) The biggest concern here would be possible pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) due to the high fat content. (the pancreas produces enzymes that help digest fat, and when the pancreas is overwhelmed it can cause pancreatitis). Generally symptoms include vomiting, inappetence, and abdominal pain. Its not LIKELY to cause pancreatitis if your dog doesn't have a history of this problem, but it is POSSIBLE. It will likely cause some loose stools. If you have an emergency hospital nearby, you could consider taking him there for them to induce vomiting, to try to minimize the chances of him developing pancreatitis. (If you are the "do everything I absolutely can to prevent a problem" type.) However, I don't think it is absolutely imperative that you do that....unless he has a history of pancreatitis in the past. It is reasonable to just monitor him at home, and feed a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice for next day or two. Expect some loose stools, but if he starts to become lethargic and/or starts vomiting and/or is not wanting to eat, take him to your vet. A little bit of peanut butter here and there to encourage your pet to either take special medication or behave at the vet is ok to do. However I wouldn't make it a go-to treat because it is very fattening and can also lead to pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas) over time if it is given in excess. If this is being fed as one of their main meals for the day, then yes, it is unhealthy - this is not complete or nutritionally balanced, and is not an appropriate long-term diet for any dog. I would recommend feeding a good-quality commercial dog food such as Purina ProPlan, Iams/Eukanuba, or Royal Canin. Any treats or supplemental feeding beyond that should make up no more than 10% of the total diet. Yes, both of these foods are safe for dogs - there's no reason that you couldn't give them every day, in small amounts as a treat. Just make sure that you're not using a sugar-free brand of peanut butter, as some of these contain xylitol which is toxic for dogs. Most "regular" peanut butter brands are fine :)

Bread is generally speaking ok, but can cause occasional diarrhoea. If that is the case, as a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
