Can dogs eat boneless salmon and how often is it safe?

No, it's not safe to feed your dog uncooked salmon. Raw salmon can contain parasites and/or bacteria that can be harmful to dogs, and so they should never be fed raw fish. You may give it to her cooked, and make sure all of the bones are removed. I would only give her a small amount, as new foods can cause GI upset in dogs.

No, it is never recommended to allow dogs to eat cooked bones. They can splinter in the GI tract, causing perforation of the intestinal tract. They can also cause a blockage. I would not feed this to your dog.

Salmon is not toxic per se' but can, if not stored properly, carry some dangerous bacterial contaminations. There should not be anything to be worried about, especially if that salmon Luna ingested was stored properly and was for human consumption.

If there is an underlying allergy to fish, then fish should be avoided. Eating it raw or just too much of it can cause gastrointestinal distress including vomiting and/or diarrhea not to mention raw fish can contain parasites which can also cause illness. However, a small amount of food cooked every so often as special treat is not a concern as long as there are no existing allergies to fish.

Yes, Butter can eat cooked deboned fresh fish as long as it is not cooked in oil which can cause pancreatitis and is not cooked with garlic or onions which can be toxic to dogs. Steaming, baking or grilling is preferable. As with humans, avoid feeding too much fish that could be high in mercury content such as swordfish. It is still recommended to primarily feed her a high quality balanced dog food. Definitely avoid feeding raw fish due to risks of parasites and salmonella poisoning. Butter’s a lucky dog!

I understand your concern, most salmon which is intended for human consumption is processed so as to remove any parasitic cysts present in the meat. Packaged smoked salmon is also likely to be heated as well during the smoking process. While most likely safe from an infectious standpoint, smoked salmon may have added flavors, salt, and natural fats which can cause gastrointestinal upset for Olivia when given in moderate quantities. Cooked salmon is fine. We typically recommend avoiding the frequent proteins found in regular diets. This may include chicken and beef mainly. For novel proteins, we typically recommend venison, duck, or rabbit. You can find commercial diets with these ingredients. Occasionally, pets may also be allergic to grains, so selecting something with a single ingredient such as potato and duck is usually the best option. Hope this helps and best of luck.
