Why do my Lab's ears have brown gunk and smell like brownies?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 75 lbs

My one year old labs ears mostly one side have a melted chocolate like substance in them and smell like brownies. I cleaned them and they dont seem to bother him. What could this be and what should I do?

This can be a sign of an ear infection, such as a yeast infection. I'd have Milo checked out by a vet tomorrow for this problem. If he does have an ear infection, the vet can prescribe treatment for it. Best of luck.
