It's probably an ear infection, often it cannot be seen from the outside. Ear infections are very common in dogs, it is usually caused by either yeast or bacterial disease. the treatment is usually simple and straightforward, you will have to take Pixie to the vet and get the ears checked, then a prescription ear drops will be prescribed according to the infectious agent.

I can't tell from the picture if there are legs or if they is just a scab? If there are legs then it is likely a tick. You cannot see ear mites with the naked eye and they are usually inside the ear canal. If it is just a scab then this is likely a localized infection. You can try putting some neosporin on it twice a day to see if it gets better. If it isn't improving, I would have your vet take a look at it to see if she needs any other meds to help it heal. I hope this helps ! You can give her benadryl if it seems itchy. See link below.

Hi there. This appears to be a pretty bad skin infection in the photo. In order to know if a she has ear mites in addition, she would need to have an ear swab test done with a veterinarian. It looks like she will need oral antibiotics from your veterinarian as well. Until you can get her in, you can purchase ear cleaner at a pet store and clean some of the debris out.
