My 16-year-old Pomeranian's ear lump shrunk. Is it still cancer?

This lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Carmell! How old i Carmell? There are 2 lesions on the ear 1) the crusty large one on the tip looks to be chronic either from a dermatitis (food allergies, infection), immune or ring worm. 2) the hairless pink one can be many things, some are benign like histiocytoma or mast cell tumor. There are other possibilities. Many can look the same. If Carmell is eating less and lethargic it may be best to have your Vet examine her. If she is older I'd worry more. My gut feeling is that she is feeling ill from something else besides the ear. I hope this helps and I wish Carmell the best!

Hello, that lump appears very similar to a histiocytoma. These tumors occur in young dogs primarily, are benign, and resolve on their own within several weeks. This should be confirmed by obtaining a sample from this tumor with a needle or by obtaining a biopsy. Have your veterinarian re-check Lola, especially if her lump is not resolving with medications and talk about sampling the lump. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi. If her lymph node is enlarged, I would recommend it be tested via needle cell check called cytology. This can be done awake and be able to rule out infection or cancer. I'm concerned because as animals get older we worry more about cancer. I'd get checked asap
