What is this dry, off-white skin tag-like bump on my Yorkie's neck?

It has the appearance of a sebaceous cyst or mass, however without a physical exam this cannot be confirmed. Monitor for rapid change or growth, discharge or discomfort associated with the lump. Place an e-collar (cone) on SP if he is able to lick or chew the area. Following up with your veterinarian next week is a good idea if you have any additional concerns.

I would encourage you to check in with your veterinarian to check for this possibility so that therapy can be used accordingly. This could be a cyst, an infection, plaque or even a skin tumor like a melanoma. Masses that grow suddenly, change in color/size/are painful are more concerning than those that do not change. The only way to know for sure what this mass is would be for your veterinarian to do an exam and potentially biopsy it. I do not recommend applying any ointment or other medication yet as it could be harmful depending on what it is.

I would not be overly concerned about this but continue to monitor closely for any further increase in size or change in colour. Many small wounds, cysts and blocked glands will develop into small, firm noduels and most will harden and shrink down uneventfully. Any changes should be assessed by your vet however

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sadly a lot of skin masses can look and feel the same. I always recommend anytime a new mass shows up or an old one changes that you get it looked at by a Vet. It could be a lipoma (benign fatty mass), normal anatomy, a cyst or a cancerous growth. I don't think you need to rush Bella in but watch it closely for rapid changes and have her seen at your convenience. I hope this helps and I wish Bella the best!

You would need to have your dog physically examined by your veterinarian for confirmation. Removal is recommended if the lump grows larger or becomes ulcerated, but others may grow in the same spot or different areas. Keep it clean and dry and be careful not to irritate it during grooming/brushing or bathing.
