Why is my dog drooling in sleep? Could it be raisin poisoning?

Drooling can be a sign of renal disease, nausea, an infected tooth, a salivary gland infection or a foreign object trapped between the teeth or the roof of the mouth. I recommend to play it safe and have Riley examined by the veterinarian. Definitely keep him cool as pets can get heat stroke. Drooling can be a sign of nausea and this with a decreased activity level can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It would be extremely unlikely that the vomiting on Friday is related to raisin ingestion on Monday. It was a very small amount of raisins that Bubba ate. Typically symptoms of raisins intoxication are seen within 2-3 days after ingestion. I suspect Bubba could be vomiting because of upset stomach, gastroenteritis, infection or dietary indiscretion. Shaking is probably also related to vomiting and nausea. You should follow your vet recommendations, offer Bubba small amounts of bland food every few hours and make sure he is drinking water. Typical stomach upset should resolve within 2-3 days.

Raisins have the potential to cause kidney failure which causes the dog to act lethargic, not eat, maybe vomit and likely drink and urinate more. If your puppy isn’t doing any of those things I doubt the raisin has anything to do with it. He may have a urinary tract infection or crystals in his urine. I recommend making an appointment with your Vet for tomorrow and bring a irons sample. I good this helps and I wish you the best!

You may continue to monitor Coco for now to make sure that he does not develop any vomiting. If it resolves then he should be ok and there is no need for further evaluation of this. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. You could try a bland diet composed mainly of boiled chicken and white rice which is easily digestible and can help with an upset stomach. Good luck and have a great day!

These could be symptoms of a toxicity (e.g. if Shelby recently ate something toxic to dogs like raisins, chocolate, sugar free gum, antifreeze, aspirin); liver or kidney disease (both of which can cause nausea/vomiting); pancreatitis (vomiting/diarrhea due to an inflamed pancreas from eating table food), possibly a foreign body obstruction or other causes. All of these possibilities are potentially life threatening and the safest option is to take Shelby to a veterinary ER as soon as possible for bloodwork, radiographs and treatment as indicated based on the physical exam.
