My dog drank sweet almond oil. Is it an emergency? Do I need a vet?

I think it depends what kind of Almond oil you are referring to: Food grade or Essential oil that may have other ingredients? It also depends on how much she actually ingested. Food grade almond oil contains a lot of fat and essential oil I'd worry about the other chemicals. The fat in food grade can cause stomach upset (vomit, diarrhea, not eating) or pancreatitis. Since she seems fine I would recommend watching her closely for GI upset. I would also consider feeding her a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice for 3-5 days. I hope this helps!

Almonds are not toxic to dogs and I wouldn’t think there is anything in this granola that would be dangerous. It could cause stomach upset but seeing an emergency vet now probably wouldn’t change much - I’d just monitor her for any vomiting or diarrhea and take her to a vet for symptomatic treatment if it occurs. I don’t think there is anything preventative to do.

According to the list of ingredients on the package this almond milk does not contain xylitol but cane sugar as a sweetening agent. So, in that respect you do not have to worry about your dog having ingested xylitol with this almond milk. I think the worst that will happen is that your dog may get a little diarrhea from the almond milk, if this was a new food to him.

The oil isn't toxic, but it can cause vomiting and/or diarrhea. Some dogs can develop pancreatitis, which can cause illness that lasts for several days. If Narla is sick for more than 12-24 hours, she should get checked out by the vet. Her stools may be loose and greasy for a few days as the oil passes through.

Oh no, that wasn't good of Oakley to lick up that oil! The problem with it is that it's an oil, meaning it's fatty, and too much fat isn't good for a dog. That can lead to pancreatitis, which is a medical emergency. He is a good sized dog, and if he didn't ingest a lot, it may not be a problem, but it could be a problem. I would feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice instead of his regular food for a couple of days, and keep an eye on him. If you see any vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, anorexia, or stomach pain, rush him into a vet immediately. Especially if you see him vomiting undigested food, he has to see a vet right away. Keep in mind as well that Oakley could vomit this back up himself because the fat will be hard on his stomach. The concern with that is oil can travel down the trachea, leading to an aspiration pneumonia. If you see him coughing, sneezing, having difficulty breathing, or wheezing, have him seen by a vet right away. I hope this helps!

Wasabi can also upset their belly. I am concerned that if he suffers from a chronic history of pancreatitis, he may develop this from eating fatty items like almonds. I recommend that you monitor Quigley closely for any evidence of gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, diarrhea and/or inappetence. if any of these signs are observed, have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. That is a small amount of oil, and while Percy should be ok, I would keep an eye on him to be safe. Oil is a fat, and too much fat can cause pancreatitis in dogs. Symptoms of pancreatitis include abdominal pain, vomiting, lethargy, and anorexia. If you see any of those signs, rush him into a vet immediately because pancreatitis is very serious. Best of luck.
