Why is my dog dragging paws, unbalanced, and yelping after a fight?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 12 years and 8 months old

My two "Same Sized" dogs got in a fight. Now one of them is dragging both front paws. Has horrible balance. He yelps when His back is touched. His left paw was bleeding. He's been like this for two days. PS. both dogs weigh under 20 pounds. There is only one small cut on his left pad he has no other cuts on his paws top or bottem. I have thoroughly searched and found only that one on his left pad.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. It is worrisome that he is dragging his paws. This can be indicative of a neurological problem. He may have damaged his neck or back during the fight. He may need x-rays as well as medication to decrease inflammation around his spinal cord, muscle relaxants and pain medications. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs and interfere with ones prescribed by his veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
