My dog is dizzy, sad, and tired during her heat. Is this normal?

Poor girl. Some dogs have a tougher time than others when it comes to their first heat cycle. However she does seem to bra late bloomer as most dogs have their first heat cycle around 6-10 months. If she is this ill I would recommend having her to examined by your vet to make sure she isn't having any complications or other underlying illness that's causing this. If she is found to have a ln abnormally intense heat cycle, then the vet can prescribe some safe pet friendly pain medicaiton for her to get for the next few days until the brunt of her menstrual cycle has passed. In the meantime I try placing a warm compress on her belly for a few minutes (be very careful not to leave on too long or you can easily burn your pets skin) to help ease some of the discomfort. hope she feels better soon!

Lethargy is normal for dogs who are in heat, and is due to the hormonal and prostaglandin changes that occur with a heat. This lethargy will pass when her heat is over, and there's really nothing you can do for her since it is due to hormonal and prostaglandin changes. I would just let her rest, give her love and attention.

Since it is her first heat, there may be a problem showing up that was not evident before her reproductive organs became active. Or, it could be something else altogether. Your best bet is to take her to the vet for a thorough exam to determine an accurate diagnosis and, if necessary, appropriate treatment plan.

Dogs can feel lethargic and not want to eat during their heat cycle especially their first one. However, this shouldn't last long. Vomiting is a bit unusual for a heat cycle. She should get a physical examination by a veterinarian to make sure she doesn't have gastroenteritis or pancreatitis.

She may though become less playful perhaps at the beginning though she should come around fairly quickly. If no improvement is observed, have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Being in heat can cause behavioural changes in dogs, as long as they are not too extreme and the dog is otherwise well I would not worry too much. Quite often when in heat dogs well be lethargic and not want to eat very much.

No, being very lethargic isn't normal for a dog in heat so I'd have Bailey checked out by a vet to be safe. Do not allow her outside alone, and do not take her into public places while she is in heat. She is technically fertile now if she is in heat, but the best time to breed a dog is between days 9-14 of their heat. A dog's heat will last three to four weeks. I would not breed her until at least her second heat. I hope this helps!
