What diet and care will help my dog live a long, healthy life?

I am very much upset Actually my friend gsd is now 13 yrs old and I want Danny to live upto that age but I don't think so because this medicine like for his mouth ulcer and yeast infection innleg for both vet prescribed amoxicillin potassium clavulanate once 4 months back for yeast infection now for ulcer a year ago I lost my gsd he was 10.9 yrs I am very much upset can you please suggest me what diet and what should I do so that Danny. Plus live upto 13 years of age

Hello. Yeast infections often have secondary bacterial infections present, so the vet prescribing the antiboitic for the yeast infection was probably actually giving it to treat a secondary bacterial infection. There is no way to ensure that Danny lives to 13 years of age, as you cannot control for many diseases that could occur such as cancer, heart disease, etc. You can improve his chances of living longer by getting him on a good quality dog food (kibble), getting him neutered, and making sure he stays fit and in a good body condition (not fat but not thin). Also, keeping him up to date on vaccines and deworming, and making sure he doesn't get out to get hit by a car. After that you cannot control how long he lives for, and when you are unsure if he is sick or not have him seen by a vet.

I would look for an alternative vet in your area who specializes in acupuncture and herbs. This may help to alleviate some of the antibiotics needed. Just know that unfortunately, depending on the reason, some times dogs need antibiotics more frequently than other dogs. But talking to an alternative vet or an integrative vet, they may been able to give you and Danny additional options. I hope this helps!

My senior dog has a skin infection. Is it yeast? What should I do?

Oh my. Poor Chillidog. This appears to be a really bad bacterial infection and not a yeast infection in my professional opinion. Perhaps even a Staphylococcus infection. You should request from your vet to have a culture done of the skin so that you know what antibiotic will resolve this. And because if your pets age, a look at underlying causes is highly recommmended if there was no trauma to he skin hat may have caused this. The infection appears deep so I actually would not recommend continuing the topical antibiotic if this were my patient. Oral antibiotics are a must! I also would recommend an Elizabethan collar to prevent any licking or chewing, which will only make this worse. I really hope you can get a handle on Chillidogs skin infection quickly. Great question! One thing I would strongly recommend is having Coco spayed. Dog who are intact are prone to developing a pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. It makes dogs very sick. Unfortunately spaying her now won't lower her risk of mammary tumors, but at least it takes away the risk of the pyometra. Feed her a healthy diet, don't give her human foods, and plenty of exercise daily. Keep her up to date on her vaccines, heartworm treatment, flea and tick treatments, and deworming treatments. Finally, have her seen by a vet yearly for a health check, taking her in sooner whenever she is sick. I hope this helps!

Do frequent antibiotics harm my dog's lifespan or organs? What to do?

No, taking antibiotics, even a lot of them, does not decrease the life span of your dog. Unfortunately German Shepherds are a breed that has a lot of medical and congenital problems. The fact that he keeps having infections points to a problem with his immune system, ie , that it is not working very well. You may want to discuss with your vet whether Bruno's immune system could be boosted and how. This is different in every animal and depends on the individual condition, therefore it is best to discuss this with the veterinarian who knows him best.
