My dog has diarrhea and vomiting. When should I call the vet?

It is definitely a good sign that he is eating and drinking well. Diarrhea is a common problem in animals and is usually self-limiting (will go away on its own). If Brody has any of the following, the he should see a vet: 1) Blood in diarrhea 2) Very watery diarrhea 3) Dog starts acting very depressed 4) Dog stops eating or drinking for longer than 24 hours. 5) Diarrhea lasts longer than three days. You can help him get through this by feeding bland food (boneless chicken and rice is good). Feed small portions (1 cup or less) three times a day. Ensure fresh, clean water is always available. I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Poor Gambino! If he continues behaving normally then I would pick up his regular food and only feed him a very bland diet until your appointment - boiled skinless boneless chicken and white rice. Also I would bring a sample of his stool in for testing. If your vet is open this evening you may want to move your appointment so they can get him some medication to help with the diarrhea asap. If that is not possible and he has multiple jam-like bowel movements I would bring him in to an emergency clinic this evening. They can get dehydrated quickly with that much diarrhea. Considering your description of the signs, Harley may have a possible gastrointestinal infection and require treatment with dietary change (bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portions every 6 hours for 4-5 days), antibiotics, probiotics, antiemetic medications and eventually gastroprotectants. Ask your veterinarian to check her over and discuss these treatment options (on prescription).

You can change his food to boiled chicken and rice as this is very bland. You can also get probiotics from any pet store to start. If he starts vomiting or has a decrease in appetite, or starts with bloody diarrhea, then he needs to be seen by your vet. If it continues past 48 hours with no improvement, then I would get him checked also

Friday is way too long, he must get veterinary treatment before that, he needs an anti vomiting injection this is the first thing that needs to be done as if he carries on vomiting nothing can be given to him orally. you tried the boiled chicken and rice, this is usually my first advice as well, but since it didn't do the trick, he must see a vet ASAP.

Hi there, it sounds like they both have a touch of gastroenteritis which could have been picked up from the water or because of the new tests upsetting their tummies. I would starve them 24 hours then feed plain chicken and rice for a day. If they are getting worse go to the vet. Try and avoid letting them drink water outside from now on.
