My dog has diarrhea and vomiting. Is his rice-based food the cause?

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | unneutered | 11 months and 30 days old | 48 lbs

Hello, I want to ask if Max could've developed intolerance for rice, because he has diarrhea problem from a few weeks, we've dewormed him and still not okay poop. So rice is at least 50 % of his food mixed up with meat. Yesterday he puked all his food and in the morning he didn't wanna eat and then I gave him something thats not rice and he ate it. Is there a connection?

Food intolerances are not very common for dogs to get and it would be even more rare for rice to be the cause. Food intolerances are due to certain proteins which are usually animal proteins (beef, pork, dairy, etc.). To find the actual protein Max is allergic to, you would have to do an elimination trial. Keep in mind that your diet trial will cease to work if he is getting any treats or table scraps. Make sure that there is no possibility of this happening - especially if there are kids in the house.

As always, it's best to do these things in consultation with your vet. They can also ensure that nothing else is responsible for the diarrhea. It is definitely possible that the vomiting and diarrhea is due to a long-standing infection.

If Max has any of the following, the he should see a vet as soon as possible:

1) Blood in diarrhea
2) Very watery diarrhea
3) Dog starts acting very depressed
4) Dog stops eating or drinking for longer than 24 hours.

My puppy has diarrhea and vomiting. Is it from milk or rice?

You should not give your puppy cow's milk as it makes diarrhea! Rice is also not a proper dog food. You need to feed your puppy proper complete commercial puppy food for large breeds. Stop the milk immediately, offer water. Get puppy food as described and replace part of the rice every day until you feed puppy food only.

He may have ate something that caused some gastrointestinal upset since he seems to be doing better. Continue feeding the beef and rice for a few days and then transition back to his regular food. If the vomiting and diarrhea persists then he needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can take an x-ray to make sure he doesn't have an obstruction since there is a chance he ate some socks.

Why does my dog have recurring diarrhea, vomiting, and accidents?

Poor Maximus! The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including giardia, bacterial over growth, parasites or other even something more sinister like Addison's Disease. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normla food can be done. My dog has diarrhea, loud stomach, won't eat, and is sleeping more.

Poor Max sounds sick. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

My puppy threw up clear foamy liquid and has diarrhea. Should I worry?

I am very sorry to hear that Max is experiencing these problems, I am sure it is very unsettling for you both. There are a number of potentiall causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few hours I would continue to monitor Max at home. The foamy clear vomit you noticed is most likely the final contents of Max's now empty stomach; bike and stomach acids. It's not anything to be worried about. . Rest Max's gastrointestinal tract by holding back food for 12 hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. If Max does not improve, has sever vomiting or diarrhoea, you notice fresh blood, Max seems lethargic, in pain or depressed I would advise a trip to the veterinarian.
