My dog has diarrhea, vomiting, and ear scratching. Should I see a vet?

Scout seems to be having some GI upset! You can bring in a sample of her stool to your vet to check for common issues such as parasites which may be causing it, however if the bland diet isn't helping, or her vomiting and diarrhea symptoms continue, bringing her into your vet for a complete exam is the best next step.

Scratching at the ears and shaking the head is often signs of an ear infection. Since Taswell is also having a little bit of vomiting and some accidents it could also be a sign of allergy or other systemic illness. I would recommend a veterinary visit to check for an air infection or other signs of illness for Taswell. Hello. I am sorry Scout isn't feeling well. It sounds like Scout is very very sick and even though it is a long way from an emergency clinic I recommend you going there. Vomiting blood and having bloody diarrhea can be life-threatening, and can because caused by many issues, including parvo-virus. Without care, and quickly, Scout could get very sick or even die as this can lead to sepsis (severe whole body infection) or severe dehydration. If it is impossible to get Scout to a vet tonight (try calling around to see if a clinic in your area does out of hours care), then try to get Scout to eat or drink anything and get Scout to the vet ASAP in the morning. Yes, any pet that has persistent signs especially vomiting and diarrhea should be evaluated immediately. Once dehydration and electrolyte imbalance develop, they will just continue to get weaker and weaker unless treated. Reasons for vomiting/diarrhea are many and range from intestinal problems or problems with other organs in the body causing the signs. Intestinal worms, dietary indiscretion (eating things she is not supposed to eat), dietary intolerance/sensitivity, a foreign body (especially in younger dogs), infection, inflammation, toxins, pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, etc. Your vet can do a physical exam and some tests which could include a fecal exam, blood work, x-rays, ultrasound, etc. to try to determine what is causing the problem. Once a diagnosis is made they will advise a treatment plan to address the issue. Your vet can also address the itching of her muzzle and whining which may or may not be related. I hope this is just temporary and it resolves quickly for you and Moka.

Regarding the ear he is probably suffering from an ear infection, your vet can prescribe an antibiotic ear drops for him. the vomiting is likely unrelated, It sounds as Mojo is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Poor Scout! If he is really lethargic or walking in circles then I would have him seen today as it could be an inner ear infection. But if he is otherwise acting okay except for shaking his head or pawing at it then yes, it can wait until tomorrow. Your vet will be able to determine the type of infection and put him on the proper ear meds if needed. I hope this helps!

Poor guy. Scrappy sounds like he is in pretty bad shape. Based on his severe symptoms I would highly recommend taking him to your nearest vet right away for some testing and treatment depending on his underlying illness. Some possible causes of vomiting, weight loss, appetite and liquid stool are parvovirus, foreign body obstruction or a bacterial infection. The vet will likely start with a parvovirus test (especially if Scrappy is not fully vaccinated), and additional testing if needed. Puppies can get dehydrated very quickly when they are both vomiting and having loose stool. Once we know what is going on with Scrappy, we will know how to treat him and hopefully get him well again. Until you can get him in you should offer him plenty of water and perhaps even Pedialyte (non-flavored) diluted with water and a liquid diet (Ensure) can be tried in small amounts. I hope your puppy Scrappy is able to make a full and speedy recovery. Take care.
