My dog has diarrhea/vomiting after flea meds. Is it poisoning?

With this much vomiting I would be worried about the possibility of Penelope eating something she shouldn't have, such as a toy or other foreign material, which could have caused a blockage or obstruction of her intestines. The topical flea and tick medication should not cause her to vomit. I recommend offering Penelope a small amount of boiled chicken and rice, and see if she tolerates this. If she vomits this up and/or cannot even keep water down, she should be seen by your veterinarian for x-rays. If she can eat a small amount of this bland diet, I recommend feeding this boiled chicken and rice for the next 2-3 days and slowly transitioning her back to her usual diet. I hope this is helpful!

Nitenpyram is a short acting medication. It kills adult kills rapidly and should not last past 24 hours. If he is having abrwaction, he needs to be seen by a veterinarian. If an adverse reaction is not the cause of the symptoms described, then a more comprehensive exam and diagnostics may be required to diagnose the underlying cause. If he has been intentionally poisoned, an exam is strongly recommended. The sooner a toxicity is diagnosed and treated, the greater the chances for a positive outcome. Discuss payment plans or alternative financing options, such as CareCredit ( www.carecredit.com ), with the veterinarian or office manager. Friends and family can also be asked to assist you financially.

This is very hard to say. This could be a delayed reaction to the flea preventive, but it could also be heat stroke (especially if he has a fever higher than 103.5F) or it could be just a gastrointestinal problem that happened at the same time by chance. Diarrhea and throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Poseidon for 12 to 24 hours and then put him on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to his regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or if he gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on. If you are very worried about his condition , then you may want to take him to the vet before the weekend.

You did not mess up, its ok! They are both for fleas but work in different ways. Nexgard will kill the adult fleas (as well as ticks). However adult fleas are only a small part of the problem when it comes to fleas, because the eggs that may have been laid by the adult fleas will sprinkle off your dog, hatch in your carpet (eww I know) and the baby larvae will find their way back onto your dog (or other pets, or even you in very severe infestations). Sentinel renders the eggs laid by fleas unable to hatch. This article below may help explain this. Its possible that the medications may have contributed to her diarrhea today. If she is still eating, is playful and acting normally, see how she is in the morning, and let your vet know she had some diarrhea. Your vet may advise against giving them at the same time if he or she suspects that may have contributed. But the sort answer here it, you did not mess up. Hello. It sounds like Charlie was given Capstar & Bravecto. However, if they were administered on the 28th, the Capstar was out of his system after 24 hours. Vomiting & loss of appetite are the 2 most common signs of the Bravecto, but it is still an extremely safe medication. So I am not sure we can blame it on the flea medications after this much time. If the vomiting has just started, withhold all food for at least 8-12 hours, & only allow small amounts of water, preferably as ice cubes. Restart food using 25% cooked chicken & 75% white rice when the vomiting has stopped. Give very small meals frequently rather than 1 or 2 big meals. If Charley seems comfortable, transition back to his regular diet after about 1 day or so. It could be he is experiencing an abnormal reaction to the flea medication, but it could also be he has a severe illness like kidney disease, GI illness, liver disease, heart disease, or even cancer causing his symptoms. He sounds extremely sick, and I do not think you should wait until tomorrow to take him into a vet. You need to take him into an ER vet immediately. Best of luck.

It is very unlikely that this happened from applying too much flea medicine. This is more likely due to the other symptoms you mentioned including the diarrhea, difficulty urinating and fatigue.
