Why does my 9-month-old dog have diarrhea and blood on his penis?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 9 months and 8 days old | 23 lbs

My 9 month old dog has been having diarrhea for weeks. He was on medication to treat that & Giardia plus a chicken & rice diet. He is still having diarrhea but it's a normal color vs the yellow orange it was before & I have eased him back onto kibble with a little chicken & rice. I noticed today that his penis also has dried blood on the tip & he is sensitive down there. He was licking a lot. Any ideas?

Blood on the penis at his age is most likely due to a urinary infection or trauma, if the blood and licking continues you will need to take him to the vet as he will need an antibiotic course and possibly some anti inflammatories.
