Does my dog's DHPP shot also protect them from kennel cough?

Yes, kennel cough is very common and spreads very easily. Pets who receive the vaccine may still get kennel cough (just like people can still get the flu even though they had the vaccine), but they tend to get less sick IF they end up getting the infection. Yes, I would have Charley vaccinated as well. The kennel cough vaccine doesn't completely protect against the disease, but it makes the symptoms less severe if the dog gets it. This is because there are a number of different bacteria that can cause kennel cough. Mayzie could still get it, and yes she could bring it home and infect Charley.

While Bordetella is a common component of the infection, you are correct in that there are other causes. I do recommend the vaccine though as I seen respiratory infections very frequently. DHPP vaccines should be given every 3-4 weeks until the last shot on or after the 16 week birthday. Rabies is only given once, typically around 12 weeks of age. I do not use the corona vaccine. Kennel cough is given once or twice depending on the manufacturer's guidelines. I deworm my puppies at each vaccination appointment and then annually. All vaccines should be boostered at 1 year of age. Any injection can cause a local reaction, it should not drain and it should not be painful. Other possible causes of a lump include abscess or an enlarged lymph node. You can have your vet check on this at the next appointment (or sooner if Oreo isn't feeling well).

Yes, the distemper/parvo (DHPP) combination vaccinations that we use in puppies are the same as those we use in adults, but some of the ingredients in some of the combination vaccinations are not given until the puppies are older. I would recommend speaking to your veterinarian about which viruses should be included in puppies vaccinations, but they are generally canine distemper, infectious hepatitis, parainfluenza and parvovirus. The first vaccination by now will have lost all effectivity. So you are starting basically from the beginning. Your puppy will need three courses of DHPP as a basic core course of vaccinations. It will also need a rabies shot. These will need a booster after one year and then he will only need vaccinations every three years. If you only vaccinate once, the body will not make the specific antibodies necessary for the viral diseases covered, but will only initiate a general immune response. Only the second and third course will then entice the body's immune system to make specific antibodies. Vaccines are given in 2-3 week intervals.
