Puppy vaccine schedule: Is he on track? Lump after kennel cough shot?

I suspect that the lump may be where injections were given, but it would be best to ask your veterinarian about this when they are available Depending on how long ago the injections were given, it may indicate any infection. If the injections were given recently (within the last 1-3 days), then I would not worry too much about it and just monitor it for now. If the lump is still there two weeks after the injections were given, or continues to grow, then I would recommend having your vet evaluate it sometime soon. That is a very common occurrence after vaccination. The vaccine can cause a localized reaction and it should resolve on its own within a month. If it persists, seems larger, or bothers him that have your vet take a look at it.

Vaccine recommendations to partially depend upon his lifestyle and where you live. Also, that second vaccine should have been given in a 2 to 4 week window from the initial vaccine. If it was given later than four weeks after the first vaccine, he will need booster vaccines within a 2 to 4 week window. If he gets groomed, goes to the park or has contact with other dogs in general, you may consider getting a kennel cough vaccine. Other vaccines are for Lyme disease and Influenza (dog flu). Your local veterinarian can discuss if these diseases are present in your area and what potential risk factors exist. If the lump is getting bigger it may be worth taking her back to the vet to make sure that it's not infected. A tumor isn't impossible but fairly rare for a young puppy and more likely to be a vaccine reaction if that's where he gave it. Make sure the vet is fully aware as they may want to give her a Premedication before her next vaccines. You can try doing a warm compress on the lump to see if that may decrease some swelling. A warm washcloth every 6-8 hours for 5-10 minutes. I hope Moana is better soon.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The small lump may be a normal reaction to the vaccine causing a small amount t of scar tissue to form and will likely go away. However, it may also be unrelated and caused by a bug bite or skin infection. As for Tippy’s diarrhea, it is very unlikely that it was related to the vaccines. I recommend having her seen by a vet before she is boarded to rule out intestinal parasites or viral infections that are contagious to other dogs. Also, the stress of being boarded may make her symptoms worse, and the kennel staff may have to take her to the vet with your permission while you are away. This could be a skin reaction to a sting or bite, or a cyst or a little abscess or in fact a small tumor or wart. I suggest you observe the spot weekly, and if it changes in size or color or if it starts to hurt or the skin around it turns red, then you should have it examined by your veterinarian. If it stays the same or gets smaller, then it is likely nothing you have to worry about and you can show it to your vet the during the next routine visit.

Poor Rocky. A lump at the vaccination site, as well as some soreness and tiredness, are normal after getting a vaccine. If Rocky will let you, you can try holding a warm compress (such as a washcloth soaked in warm water and then wrung out) against the sore area for a few minutes 1-2 times daily until he seems to be feeling better. Usually, most pups are back to normal within a few days :)
