Poor Einstein! yes some form of toxin / poison contact would be my first thought as well. If he has had recent access outside I would be concerned about plant or mushroom ingestion - there are quite a few plants can cause this and it is mushroom/ toadstool season as well. My next thought would be are there any medicines that you or your family take that he may have picked up a pill or licked something that was medicated? Finally some household chemicals including pesticides, ant bait, flea treatments, garden chemicals that also could cause this. Does his fur smell abnormal? I really recommend you take him to the ER vet right away. They will probably suggest calling the animal poison control line (which charges a consult fee but is very valuable information). They may start him on IV fluids to help flush out whatever is causing this effect. If they suspect it's on his fur they may bathe him, they may also treat his vomiting an diarrhea symptoms as well there are some general antidote type medicines that they may consider if appropriate. Not sure if these signs are due to a possible ingestion like you describe, but I would advise getting Milo evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. It is possible that the ingredients of the mask have irritated the stomach/intestinal lining causing these signs. It is always possible that the masque ingestion is just coincidental and other things are causing the signs. The anorexia (not eating) and vomiting are very important though. Persistent vomiting and lack of appetite are emergent clinic signs due to fluid/electrolyte losses. This leads to dehydration, weakness, and further downward deterioration unless the vomiting stops and the appetite returns. Many causes are possible including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion (eating things dogs aren't supposed to), other dietary problems, gastrointestinal inflammation/infection from various sources, toxin exposure, foreign body ingestion, GI ulceration, side effects from drugs or products used, or even problems outside of the gut including pancreatitis, liver/kidney problems, among many others. Your vet can get a detailed history and perform a thorough exam. Once done, a diagnostic plan and preliminary treatment plan can be started. Most likely a minimum database of fecal/blood/urine tests and some x-rays will be advised. Treatment will be focused on the cause but early treatment could include fluids/electrolytes, anti-nausea/vomiting medicines, acid blockers, etc. Good luck with Milo. Trazodone can cause vomiting and diarrhea, but these signs would typically be seen shortly after the pill was given. Some dogs will develop diarrhea and even vomiting secondary to stress so it’s possible that the fireworks were the trigger. As long as the diarrhea has resolved and you’re not seeing any more vomiting you can probably just continue to monitor her, but otherwise you should see your vet. You also may want to ask about a different sedative for the future.

This is an emergency. If you suspect a pesticide you should call the pet poison control helpline. Otherwise, when I see older animals present this way through the ER I am very worried about abdominal bleeding from a tumor. I would not wait. He should be see by a vet ASAP.

Consider an exam and diagnostics with your veterinarian since conservative treatment has not improved the condition. Blood work can assess major organ function. Endoscopy may diagnose damage done to the esophagus or stomach by the CLR. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, gastric protectants and parenteral nutrition) may be indicated until a diagnosis is reached or until your dog recovers.
