They may want to see her for a recheck, or start her on another course of antibiotics to make sure whatever is causing the issue is completely gone. An infection or ulcers or bad kidneys can cause changes in the breathe. An infection can be under the gums line affecting the tooth root that will not be able to be seen unless there are xrays taken. I would have him seen by your vet to see if this is the case and a simple blood panel can check his kidney values for you

Rex urgently needs to be seen by your veterinarian for an exam. You likely will need to schedule a dental cleaning under anesthesia. He likely has a very painful tooth root abscess. The vet will remove all tartar, and also clean under the gingiva wich will also remove bacteria which are causing infection and bad breath. He will also remove all rotten and infected teeth. This should greatly increase your dog's quality of life and will help prevent heart and kidney disease. He will also be able to eat properly without a toothache! I am very sorry your dog died. Since your dog needed a dental cleaning, I am assuming that he had a lot of tartar and inflammation and possibly one or more rotten teeth. This means there were many bacteria present in the mouth and due to the inflammation these bacteria managed to get into the circulatory system and caused the sepsis.
