My dog's breath stinks and teeth are loose. Is it a dental infection?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6 years and 4 months old | 12 lbs

How can you tell if a Chiweenie has an infection caused by bad teeth? Her breath stinks all the time an on one side of her top it's kinda greenish yellowish with a loose tooth and on the other side it's more yellowish than anything with a loose tooth as well..... I absolutely do not have the money to take her to a local vet an I feel so bad cause I know mouth pain is the absolute worse..... Thank you so much.......

These are all signs of a pretty severe dental disease and infection. Pus in the mouth and foul odor are usually the tell-tale signs. I would suggest getting financial assistance b/c this can be a huge undertaking to get a pets teeth cleaned and diseased teeth extracted, but this is the only way to correct it once the teeth are this far gone. 3 options for financing include www.carecredit.com, www.scratchpay.com and www.vetbilling.com. The first two companies have low interest APR rates (starting at 5%) and allow you to pay for a vet bill over 6-24 months. The last company offer a billing option for veterinary clients through automatic bank account drafting on a predetermined date at the time of service. Care Credit checks your credit but Scratch Pay does not, making it a good choice for owners who may have been declined for Care Credit in the past.

If Charlotte's breath is very bad, that does suggest dental problems. She likely is swallowing her teeth if they fall out, dogs do that. She really does need to see a vet for these problems, this is not something you can treat at home. I would see if you can borrow money from family and friends to afford the vet, and I can give you some resources that may help. You can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. It could be infection or unrelated periodontal disease. Dabo will need to be rechecked by your veterinarian to confirm either diagnosis. Antibiotics may be indicated. A dental cleaning may also be indicated along with dental xrays to evaluate all the teeth below the gum line. Discuss payment plans or alternative financing options, such as CareCredit (www.carecredit.com) with your veterinarian. Ask friends and family if they can assist you financially. My dog's breath smells awful and his teeth look discolored. Why?
AT that age, dental disease is common. The odor and discolorations indicate an infection due to gingivitis and tartar build up. The only way to have that removed is the have her teeth cleaned at your vet. They can clean around the gums and polish teeth similar to how ours are done. They will remove any damaged or infected teeth. You will likely need antibiotics to go along with this to further treat the infection and continue with brushing to help prevent this again

Why does my dog's bad breath and mouth problem keep returning?
Missy appears to have several areas of bone loss and exposed tooth roots. I suspect she has several diseased teeth and significant infection. Sometimes severe bone loss can results in deep ulcers and even fistulas. I recommend to discuss having Missy sedated to remove the diseased teeth and clean out any ulcers. Then give her mouth time to heal. It’s unlikely that this problem and the odor will go away with out the full treatment. Ulcer and bad teeth can cause discomfort. Not to mention if can lead to other diseases as well. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My dog has a swollen face, eye knot, and bad breath. Tooth infection?
Yes, that is a common presentation with a molar tooth infection. The tooth will need to be extracted and they will put Tootsie in antibiotics for the infection. Blood work is usually done before anesthesia and they will scale and polish the teeth and check the rest to make sure they are healthy. Once the mouth is healed then you can start brushing her teeth or using another dental product. They may also put Tootsie on pain medication. My dog has foul breath, but her teeth are healthy. What's wrong?
It's odd that it improved when the [Giardia](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/giardia/) was treated. My first suspicion for the ongoing odor is that she may be licking at her anal glands or eating her own (or someone else's) poop. Ideally, have her examined by a veterinarian just to make sure there are no wounds, irritation, etc in her mouth or throat that maybe contributing. You r vet can also check her anal glands to see if they seem full or irritated which could lead t her having a tendency to lick at them a lot. If her anal glands are fine, and her mouth is fine, use a daily product for dental health. [CET products](https://us.virbac.com/cet-veggiedent-fr3sh-dental-chew-for-dogs) contain chlorhexadine which kills bad breath causing bacteria. Why does my dog's breath smell like decay, and she's sneezing pus?
Tita most likely either has severe periodontal disease or uremic breathe due to an underlying kidney problem (less likely). Have her evealuated by your vet and highly consider getting her teeth cleaned. If she does have a foul odor then periodontal disease is very possible and she may even require some teeth extractions to get her back on track to having a healthy mouth. Oral hygiene affects the health of so many other organs, so it's important to get this treated quickly. Once she does get her teeth cleaned and obtains a healthy oral cavity, brushing her teeth daily can help her maintain this level of care and prevent severe dental disease in the future.
