My dog is dehydrated with vomiting and UTI. Can I give oral fluids?

Wilma will need to be checked out by a vet in the morning. If she does have a urinary infection, a vet can diagnose it and prescribe medication to treat it. Tonight, feed her canned food and add water to it to flush her bladder. I hope this helps.

First make sure she is eating her food without vomiting, give her only half of the food amount. if after an hour she seems to be ok and she is not vomiting, give her the second half of her food and the antibiotics. if she continues vomiting you will have to take her to your vet.

If she's completely refusing food and water and it's been more than a day, I would try to get her into your vet sooner or into the ER. You can check to see how dehydrated Aurora is by gently pinching and tenting the skin over her neck. If it seems "sticky" or is very slow to return back to normal, this is a sign of dehydration. If she's dehydrated in addition to her other symptoms and also is suffering from underlying health issues, I would have her seen right away.

IV fluids are definitely recommended for a young puppy who is vomiting and is having diarrhea because it's the best way to keep them from getting dehydrated. Getting an IV catheter put in is not very painful at all, and once the needle is in the vein, giving the fluids is painless. This is the best option for keeping dehydration at bay. Dora could be subcutaneous fluids (fluids infected under the skin), but that involves a needle as well and it does not rehydrate the dog as quickly as IV fluids. I highly recommend letting the vet give her IV fluids.

Poor Dolly. One important thing to do is take her out frequently. This gives her more opportunity to empty her bladder. Feed her canned food and add water to it to flush her bladder. I hope this helps!

Hello. Penny may have picked up an infection that is causing her gastrointestinal symptoms. I would withhold all food & water for the next 6-8 hours, & offer the rice again. I like to use the whole grain, sticky rice & not a minute or instant rice. The glutens seem to help bind them up a little better. You can also add a little cooked chicken, but the majority should be the rice. If Penny is no better by Monday, please see your veterinarian as she may need to be on antibiotics, as well. Antibiotics and urinary tract infections themselves can both cause nausea/vomiting. However, as you finished the antibiotics 5 days ago, it is less likely that the vomiting is due to the UTI antibiotics. If she has recently gotten table food or had access to food from the garbage, she may have a condition called pancreatitis caused by a sudden high fat meal that may cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain. A trip to your veterinarian for screening bloodwork to rule out a liver/kidney/pancreas issue as the cause of the vomiting, subcutaneous fluid therapy, anti-nausea medication (cerenia), and a prescription intestinal diet is advised. If you are not able to get an appointment immediately, I recommend feeding only a bland diet of boiled rice and chicken (with no regular kibble) for the next 3-5 days. Sometimes this alone helps resolve the symptoms of mild gastroenteritis. Good luck!
