Is a dark red spot on my dog's belly after surgery normal?

Hi. My dog has this red spot on her belly where her surgery is. She had it for past 2 days and today looks darker

Hello, thank you for your question about Harley.

Based on the photo that you’ve attached it appears that small area is a blood blister or forming bruise. If Harley recently had surgery it is possible that she is having a mild reaction to the surgical antiseptic used or that area is where one of the surgical instruments rested.

As long as Harley does not super painful around the area I would recommend continuing to monitor the area. If it does not fade or go away in the next few days I would recommend having Harley evaluated by a veterinarian.
