Is my dog's dark, crusty paw scab healing normally after vet visit?

If this is dry and dark in color, this indicates it is likely healing. This spot will likely flake off once completely healed. Some scabbing/crusting is normal as the area heals, however if it is actively oozing any debris, smells funny, is painful or hot to the touch, or seems to swell or worsen, those are all signs of potential infection. The feet probably don't need to be wrapped or daily soaked as this can impede healing, as long as they're kept clean and dry and healing. An Elizabethan (cone) collar can also be used to keep Tyson from licking the area. If it doesn't heal, or shows signs of infection, seeking vet care in person is best.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. You are doing just fine. It looks like she just scraped her pad and the skin above it. It may take up to 3/4 weeks to completely heal. The damaged pad takes the longest to regrow. The skin is not a problem. I would only bandage it a few days and after that keep it unwrapped as long as she isn't licking it. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The incision is healing beautifully. I would not be concerned with the scabbing as it's just a normal part of healing. It is best to leave it alone - don't apply anything on it. Definitely leave the E-collar on a for a few more days minimum. We always tell people to leave it on for 10-14 days post-operatively and it always better to go more towards the 14 days mark. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hello. If things are pretty static it is best just to leave the scab alone. Chances are at some point it will fall off. Most likely another scab will form & the process will repeat itself. I would just make sure to keep the area clean while it heals. It should not require any antibiotics or topical creams. If the paw pad begins to swell or there is drainage at the area of the injury, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Royce so that the most appropriate treatment can be administered. Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That's good to hear you've been keeping the area clean and that is doesn't appear to be bothering him. However, I would recommend this get checked out with Hershey's veterinarian soon. The bump may be allergy related or could be an abscess, swelling due to fracture of the digit, or could be an mass/tumor. Until you can get Hershey seen by his veterinarian, I would recommend Epsom salt water baths for the paw 2-3 times daily for 5-10 mins to help reduce swelling.
