How many hours of play and exercise does my dog need daily for health?

If you feel that Bailey has lost energy and is not as playful as she used to be, I would recommend having her checked out by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. In regards to exercise, anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours per day is sufficient for exercise for most dogs. If there are other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, discomfort, inappetance or decreased appetite, etc. then there may be something more serious going on. I hope this helps! A puppy should get five minutes of strenuous exercise per month of age twice a day. At two months of age, Blu can have 10 minutes of exercise twice a day. You can get him some toys he can play with himself, such as a Kong toy. They are practically indestructible, and you can fill it with treats that he needs to figure out how to get out. Best of luck.

It does not matter how many walks and how many runs Timber is getting per day and there is no set order that is recommended. As long as he is getting more than 2 hours of exercise per day, he should be ok with that amount of exercise. In regards to the food and how much he should be eating, I would recommend that you follow the feeding guidelines on the back of the bag. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. If once a day works for him and he is at a healthy weight then that is fine. If you think he may need to lose some weight then more frequent walks such as twice or three times a day would be better. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I understand your concern. If you are able to walk him at least 4 times a day then he should be ok. You could consider taking him to the dog park as well and just letting him run as that would also help tremendously. That honestly should be enough for exercise and he could be happy at a smaller apartment as long as he continues to be exercised like that. Good luck and have a great day! I think he will be ok.

I actually think that this sounds like a pretty great schedule for Brody - kudos to you for planning things out so well for him! :) His daycare days should give him plenty of social interaction and exercise, and I think that the walks and dog park trips on the days that he stays home are perfect. I know a lot of dogs who would be very envious of such a great life - Brody is a very lucky guy! Keep up the good work.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In your first post you indicated that you and Bruno walked miles, so I think cutting it down just a little bit may help. If you can be more specific about at which point in the walk (which mile or how many minutes) he wants to turn around that would be helpful. I have never heard of short walks or no walks shortening the life span of a dog. Obesity shortens the life span of dogs. Exercise is healthy for the body and mind. If Bruno doesn't want to walk for miles at a time then try a dog park, or playing Frisbee or throwing a ball. If you want to push the walks then take breaks to let him stop and sniff or throw the ball or rough house for 5-10 mins then resume your walk. I hope this helps and I hope you have a great day!
