My dog won't eat. Is CYP-L syrup safe to boost his appetite?

can i give my dog CYP-L syrup to increse the hunger of my dog.(CYP-L Syrup contains Cyproheptadine, Sorbitol and Tricholine Citrate as active ingredients.).he is not eating food.

The real question is why isn't Max eating? Does he have parasites? An infection? Pain? Giving this medication will not fix those problems. How long is he not eating for? If it has been several days since he has eaten ANYTHING, then this medication will likely not work. In sum, if it has been more than 48 hours since he has eaten, I recommend Max see the vet to figure out what is wrong with him and try to fix that underlying problem.

If you cannot take Max to the vet, you can try this medication but with caution. It can cause dry gums and sedation. Also be careful with the dosing. I think this is the one with 2mg of cyproheptadine per 5 mL? I don't know your dog's weight but if that concentration is correct, it is about 2.5 mL per 10lbs. I would start with just once and if no eating in 12 hours, you can try one more dose. If still no effect, it is unlikely to work and I would not repeat it.

Which means that we have to look a bit deeper to find out what the underlying problem is so that it is addressed specifically, as well as treat for nausea. Nausea and inappetance can unfortunately be caused by so many different things, such as an underlying infection, liver disease or even a foreign body (if vomiting also seen). I would highly recommend getting Willow re-evaluated by your vet for further testing (i..e bloodwork, +/- radiographs) to reach a diagnosis here so that we know specifically what Willow needs to hopefully stabilize her condition. My dog is limping, sick, and won't eat. What can I give him?

Hello, thank you for your question about Max. Based on Max's sore foot and the progression of his symptoms I would be suspicious that Max could have a tick-borne infection. These often start with signs of limping or discomfort but can progress to inappetance, vomiting, or other signs. If Max has already been prescribed an antibiotic for such infections, you could try cooking a bland/enticing diet such as boiled chicken/hamburger and white rice, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, or pasta. If Max is reluctant to eat even these things and continues to act sick I would recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian so that they can evaluate him and discuss other diagnostic or treatment options. No, I would not recommend giving Meclizine to your dog. First off, it is never recommended to self treat your dog, as you may accidentally do more harm than good. In addition, this medication is most commonly used in animals to reduce symptoms associated with motion sickness. It is not used to stimulate appetite. I would take your dog into the vet on Monday. The vet can prescribe a safe appetite stimulant for her to take to try to increase her appetite. I would also like to commend you for checking with a vet expert first before giving her this drug. It's always best to ask a veterinary expert :-)

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Max evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. It is considered as a very safe medication with few side effects. Apoquel does not have any effect on dog's appetite. If Rocco's appetite is down, he should be checked for fever, infection, abdominal pain, liver and kidney diseases. As for the appetite, if you haven't tried canned food I would give this a try or adding cooked chicken breast and chicken broth to the dog food. My dog has pneumonia and won't eat. Should I force-feed or what else?

I wouldn’t recommend attempting to feed witha syringe - this can lead to food aversions or aspiration. You may want to consider restarting the nausea medication since nausea could lead to a decrease in appetite and I can’t think of an anti-nausea medication that would affect mucus. You could also consider asking your vet about an appetite stimulant medication for the short term.
