My dog with Cushing's has bloody poop and mucus. What should I do?

I’m sorry that Sparky isn’t feeling well! Rectal bleeding is not typically caused by Cushings disease. I’m not sure if you mean that she has blood coming from her back end or has blood on her feces, but both are cause for concern, yet not life threatening in most cases. I recommend having Sparky seen by a vet as soon as possible to determine what is going on. There are emergency clinics which are open 24 hours in most towns/cities if your regular veterinarian is closed for the holiday. I hope this helps and that all is well!

Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Cushing's disease doesn't typically cause bloody diarrhea, vomiting and collapse. I would be worried something else is going on either with the Cushings or it's not Cushings and could be something like Addisons- which is more emergent. There is a test for these diseases but Dexter may need just a basic panel at this time to find out more information. If it is Cushings, it is not too late to intervene but the vomiting and diarrhea will complicate things. I recommend getting him to a vet right away and start with an exam and basic blood work. When blood is present, it can allow bacteria from the colon access to the blood stream. If he is still acting normal and drinking, you can likely wait until morning to have him seen. If he begins to act ill or vomits blood overnight, you will want to seek emergency care. I hope this information helps!

Poor Butter! Since this has been going on for 2-3 days now and she is also vomiting and not wanting to eat much, I would recommend taking her to the ER today to be seen, rather than waiting until next week. The ER doctor can do some diagnostic testing to help figure out what's going on (possibly blood work, x-rays, and/or a fecal exam for parasites) and get her started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found. At the very least, it sounds like she needs to be started on some supportive care and symptomatic treatment (for nausea, diarrhea, etc.) since dogs can become dangerously sick if they have symptoms like this for multiple days that are not resolving on their own.

It sounds as Caramelo is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Dear Gigi has a pretty severe case of gastroenteritis. This may have been caused by her ingesting some inappropriate foods ( garbage ), parasites ( such as hookworms & whipworms, or coccidia ), or some infectious agent including bacteria & Parvovirus. The lining of the intestines can bleed fairly easily & the mucous is a result of inflammation in the gut. She is probably nauseous & may even have some belly pain, or at least is in some discomfort from cramping. With prompt & proper treatment she will hopefully start feeling better very soon & make a full recovery.

This behavior is suspicious for not feeling well and blood in the stool further supports that. I recommend to take in a sample of the stool for testing and have Lacey checked for parasites or an infection. Based upon the physical exam and the medical history, the doctor may recommend other diagnostics as well. In the meantime feed her a bland diet as this can help to relieve inflammation in the gut.
