Can male and female dogs pass on cryptorchidism? Any genetic test?

One is, of course, an exploratory to look for abdominally retained testicles or inguinal testicles not palpable when he is awake. We do occasionally see bilateral cryptorchid males. The other way to detect this would be by blood tests. A baseline hormone test is done followed by a stimulation test to detect the presence of testicles. A single testosterone test is unreliable due to the cyclic nature of these hormone levels so a stimulation test is recommended. Good luck with Lucas.

I do not recommend breeding Mark because cryptorchidism (single descended testicle) is genetic and is a serious health concern. Mark should be neutered and the retained testicle needs to be found in his belly and removed. Leaving the testicle inside of him can cause that testicle to become cancerous. It means Konan is a cryptorchid. One of his testicles hasn't descended. This can happen, but dogs with this condition should never be bred because it's genetic. I would have him neutered, and the vet can remove both testicles. I hope this helps!

Osteochondritis dissecans does indeed have a genetic component, however there is no specific test to screen breeding dogs. Early diagnosis is possible through a physical exam and x-rays. Breeds with a predisposition are larger breeds (Labs, Goldens, Shepherds, Great Danes, Newfies, Boxers, etc.). Furthermore, different breeds may develop different types of OCD. Most dogs will show clinical signs early, around 6 months of age. Affected dogs should not be used in breeding stock. Wick should be physically examined by your veterinarian and have x-rays taken. They can be reviewed by a veterinary radiologist. If he has OCD, then he should be treated accordingly and not used as a stud dog.

If you have had Czar since he was a puppy and know that he was not neutered, then he is considered cryptorchid. This is a concern because testicles that are in the abdomen (not in the scrotum like they are supposed to be) are prone to becoming cancerous.
