My dog is crying in pain after a vet's pain shot. Is this normal?

Some puppies can have some mild pain from the injections. You could call your vet and see if he/she could prescribe an anti-inflammatory to help with the discomfort. It usually only lasts for 24-48 hours.

Vitamin injection can be very painful, especially if it was injected to the muscle, it may create a bad local reaction, i would recommend taking him back to your vet to get it checked, he may need to take pain killers for a few days.

There are certain changes such as collapsed disc spaces and calcification of intervertebral disc spaces that are consistent disc disease. A dog can be sore from an injection and have swelling in the injection site. This should resolve within 24 hours. I hope this information helps!

I believe you made an additional post about your dog stating that she woke up, moved around, and went back to sleep. That's a good sign. I answered that question, and it I said that depending on the medications she was given, this lethargy could be a side effect of them. Without knowing exactly what medications she was given, I can't say when the pain relief would wear off. I would monitor her for now, and if she's still like this in the morning, I would take her into the vet for an exam.

I'm so sorry that Zeke is painful after his vaccination. Unfortunately, pain at the injection site is a possible side effect of vaccinations and some small dogs tend to become achy and painful all over. I would recommend contacting your veterinarian. There are some prescription pain medications that can be very helpful in decreasing pain and inflammation associated with vaccination. I will typically use Metacam which works very well. You may also ask your veterinarian if Zeke should have pain medication in the future before his vaccinations, so he does not have this problem again. Good luck! It is impossible for us to predict if this is a normal response to a sedative / pain medication, progression of the condition or a different issue entirely without knowing exactly how much and what type of injectable pain relief he was given. I recommend you contact with the vets office and inform them of the change in his status and they can confirm id this is a temporary and expected response to a strong opioid pain killer or if he needs to be reassessed

Young puppies can be quite sensitive when they get their vaccines, and it can be painful for them. I would suspect that it's just tender when Peaches received her vaccine, but keep an eye on her. She should start feeling better by tomorrow, but if she is still crying in pain then, take her back into the vet. I hope this helps!
