Why is my dog coughing and snoring after surgery and anesthesia?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 40 lbs

My dog has had two surgeries, one of which was having his spleen removed. Since this surgery a year ago he coughs a lot when he eats and snores really loud. He's has several X-rays and blood work that turn out inconclusive , he's active and seems the same as he's always been, I've raised his dog bowl, gotten him a bowl to slow his eating, and he doesn't seem to be bothered or cough any other time. I'm wondering if the intubation for anesthesia can cause this? Should I be worried?

IT is a possibility, although usually there is no long term effect and the symptoms seems to disappear within a few days to a few weeks. if it happens just with food and doesn't seem to bother him otherwise, i would not worry too much about it at the moment.
