Dog coughing, reverse sneezing, lethargic after multiple vet visits?

This definitely sounds concerning, but without knowing all of the results of the tests that have already been performed it's difficult to make recommendations about what to do next. Based on your description I'd be concerned about an infectious disease or cancer, but I'm assuming many diseases have already been ruled out if Gato has seen four veterinarians. If Gato has not been to see an internal medicine specialist I would recommend asking your regular veterinarian about a referral. You could also request a consultation with one of our experts and we might be able to give better information after seeing diagnostic test results.

You might ask your veterinarian if the X-rays could be reviewed by a radiologist. While the resolution that the forum pictures allow makes them a bit difficult to interpret, I am concerned that the X-rays do not appear normal, and she may have a more serious underlying condition. It may be that she has some underlying heart disease, cancer, or an infection that requires a more broad spectrum of antibiotic. I agree the blood work you've attached is unremarkable. I am so sorry to hear that Mary Jane has this problem. Has she been treated for nasal mites? It is an uncommon problem but definitely worth a trial therapy prior to a CT. I also will typically perform a nasal flush under anesthesia before a CT as well. A nasal flush can help dislodge an object - I have found charcoal, carrot, grass, and foxtails on nasal flushes. She definitely could have inhaled an object with her head out the car window such as in your picture. Should these therapies not provide any improvement, then I would proceed with a CT at that time. Poor guy. I would first be inclined to ask for chest radiographs to be taken to look for internal causes for the cough such as bronchitis, heart disease or primary lung disease. I am not sure what kind of medication he was placed on, but for most coughs we typically will try an antibiotic first if it seems to be infectious and then go with more diagnostics if things don’t improve. I would also ask the vet to check for any abnormal lung or heart sounds on physical exam. I hope that you can get to the bottom of Pretty boys cough soon! I'm sorry Hennessey is so sick. There are many potential pathogens or problems that could cause chronic discharge and cough. Be sure that you have been giving medications or treatments as directed, and do not stop any antibiotic therapy early as this could cause resistance. But If she is not responsive to current therapies, further diagnostic testing may be necessary. In some cases radiographs of the head and chest may be helpful, or sending out bloodwork or tissue swabs to a lab to try to determine what pathogen's may be causing her illness. In some cases if her primary veterinarian is unable to dart term and the cause of her illness, it may be worth discussing referral to a specialty clinic or veterinary school for an internal medicine consult. I think it may be time to consider a specialist. I'm not sure if the vet has done a recent x-ray of Mumchie's chest, but I would be concerned his symptoms could be due to heart disease. That can be common in older dogs. Seeing a specialist may give you some answers. Best of luck.
