Is my dog safe from pregnancy after a contraception shot during her heat?

I usually do not recommend these injections. There is a risk for developing diabetes, bone marrow suppression, or a life threatening uterine infection. If you do not want Aarfaa to cycle and are not breeding her you could consider having her spayed.

The only way to make sure Selva does not get pregnant is to spay her. Their are no medications or injections to give to dogs like human birth control. I would highly recommend keeping her away from all male intact dogs and getting her spayed to avoid an accidental pregnancy.

I would not recommend giving her anything to stop the heat, in dogs it's usually a potentially harmful hormonal treatment that is known of causing cancer. you should wait at least 2 months after her heat cycle before you can have her spayed, .

There isn't an increased surgery risk because Tohru will be out of heat, plus one heat isn't as concerning. I'd be more concerned about an older dog that has had multiple heats as well as puppies. The most important thing is to make sure she doesn't get pregnant.

Yes, it is absolutely fine to spay your dog, and I applaud you for wanting to do it! She's humping because it feels good, not because she is necessarily in heat again. I would have it done before she goes into heat :-)

No, those are not signs of early pregnancy. Dogs do not get "morning sickness" like people do. Her symptoms are most likely related to the mis-mating injection she received. I do not know what type of injection is used in India for mis-mating however the one we use here in the US causes these side effects: anorexia, excitation, depression, vomiting or diarrhea. Some dogs may also be at risk for getting a severe uterine infection after the injection. The injection we use here works best and has less side effects if you wait to administer it after their heat cycle is finished. If I was your vet, I would have waited to administer the injection for a couple weeks. That being said, I do not know what medication they used. I suggest you contact your vet and find out more information and ask them about these symptoms she is having. IT is very difficult for me to say much without knowing what was used. Hope this helps. But if the vaccine isn't absolutely needed now (for boarding or grooming) I would just wait until the puppies are born and weaned. There is no issue vaccinating while they are in heat we just rather be conservative if pregnant but if she is it is VERY early. Good luck!
