My dog is constipated and won't eat. Is this a medical emergency?

Oh no, that's not good Mimi won't eat. I'm quite concerned about that, as the methods I would recommend to help with the constipation include eating something. If she is very constipated and can't go at all, I think it's best she sees a vet now. My recommendation is to take her into an ER vet immediately. Best of luck.

A few tablespoons of plain canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) or a tablespoon of Psyllium powder (unflavored) can help move things along. However the other symptoms you mentioned do sound concerning to me. Decreased appetite along with drinking more water frequently and constipation may signal a kidney function issue, liver issue, or may be due the development of diabetes among other causes. My recommendation would be to have Pretty girl seen by her veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam and perhaps some blood work to check her organ function as there may be an underlying health issue here. Poor Pira! It sounds like she has a loss of appetite, weakness, and lack of bowel movements. This can be caused by a number of conditions ranging from infections, masses, or neurological conditions. Pira should be seen by a vet as soon as possible. I would also be happy to provide a consultation and learn more about what is going on with Pira as well as more about her age and reproductive status to give you a better idea of possible causes. I'm sorry to hear that Buddy is not feeling well. If a dog is very constipated oftentimes they will stop eating because they have an overall feeling of fullness. Since I don't know what other medications Buddy is on it is hard to know what to recommend in this instance. Of course calling or taking him to see your vet that prescribed the medication would be a good starting point. If you are unable to do that at this time some things you can do at home are making sure he's drinking plenty of water (because sometime dehydration can lead to constipation) and trying to get him to eat something with a lot of fiber such as canned pumpkin. If these suggestions aren't working I would take Buddy in to see your vet. Sometimes there is a serious underlying problem to constipstion and you dog may need fluid therapy, an enema and/or a diet change.

It sounds like Kaspar may have an upset stomach. He may also have diarrhea. A lot of times dogs present appearing to be potentially constipated when in fact they just had diarrhea and feel the need to go. I would recommend having Kaspar checked out by a veterinarian. Especially since his appetite has changed. He may need diagnostics depending on physical examination and history, but he also may just need medication to help him feel better. Travelling is always a stress on the system. Try to increase fluid intake & make sure she gets plenty of exercise while you are travelling. We often advise feeding canned pumpkin , 1- 2 tablespoons twice a day to help move the bowels. As long as she is not vomiting, try feeding her some special treats like some chicken or cooked hamburger.
