My chihuahua won't eat, lost weight, and is constipated. What's wrong?

Poor Chakita! She may have blocked anal glands and that's causing the strange walking and trouble defecating. I would recommend a vet visit for sure, but you can look under her tail and see if any area there in the region of the anal glands looks raw, red, swollen or painful. These glands can get blocked and then abscess and this is a very painful condition, and usually by the time it gets to this point the dog really needs to be on pain medication and antibiotics, and you won't be able to do much for her at home. You can always try to soak her rear end in a warm water-epsom salt bath several times daily to help alleviate anal gland swelling if this is the issue, but it'd be best for her to see a veterinarian to make sure there isn't something more serious going on like a rectal tumor or blockage.

This is a medical emergency and he has to see a vet now. You cannot treat this at home. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

It sounds as Chaco is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Hello, thank you for your question about Coco. Based on the symptoms that you are describing I would be concerned about an underlying GI problem. Some dogs are sensitive to stress and changes in their environment, but I would be worried that an underlying problem is going on because her appetite has gotten worse. It is possible that she could be experiencing some inflammation/GI upset, obstruction, or another problem. If this behavior continues I would recommend having Coco seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine her and assess for any dehydration or abdominal discomfort. It's hard to know if this is constipation or anxiety. I do recommend to transition her diet. Most vets do not recommend grain free diets unless a pets has a known grain allergy due to the potential link with heart disease. Some pets will also need a diet higher in fiber to keep them regular. The diet I recommend is Royal Canin. Most pets on this diet have good stool quality. A few tablespoons of plain canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) or a tablespoon of Psyllium powder (unflavored) can help move things along. However the other symptoms you mentioned do sound concerning to me. Decreased appetite along with drinking more water frequently and constipation may signal a kidney function issue, liver issue, or may be due the development of diabetes among other causes. My recommendation would be to have Pretty girl seen by her veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam and perhaps some blood work to check her organ function as there may be an underlying health issue here.
